idle thought #585
Aug. 3rd, 2024 04:48 pmI’m reading an essay about how sex is being excised from shows and movies, and it’s like, oh yeah, huh. I didn’t personally miss it because it always feels (for me) oddly like I’m being a voyeur and that’s not one of my kinks (not sure why it doesn’t mess with me for written as much but /shrug), but, like. Unless you’re watching on the big screen, it’s easy enough to just skip past if you’re not in the mood. And with the whole shift to puritanism and sex-negative movement, targeting mostly “unorthodox sex” like kink and queer relationships….yiiiiikes. I’m mad on behalf of people that aren’t me, and while some of this stuff isn’t for me, I’d rather it exist rather than having a whole culture erased. And, like, sure, sex wasn’t always the best written by Hollywood even more than romance was, but they’re doing the WELL I JUST WON’T WRITE IT THEN NYYYAAA rather than make any effort to improve. (And also maybe because they don’t want to be accused of being the next Weinstein, which is...just don’t harass or sexually assault people. These should not be hard instructions.)
