also if you’re not sure about commenting, look at how they respond to other comments, and if they’re responding to them all with enthusiasm, you’re probably good unless you’re, like, threatening the author, don’t do that. But everything else is probably good, and if not that’s something wrong with the author, not you. I have deleted a total of (1) comment on my dreamwidth, and that was a Neonazi (based on his history) who had somehow wandered in, and I didn’t want anyone who’d been attacked by him to feel unwelcome.
