It’s unfortunate hearing about the James Somerton stuff, particularly as I’d recommended some of the videos. I’d watched a couple videos and didn’t notice the misogynist stuff or, since I wasn’t seeing the whole pattern, thought it was poking fun at the people like that. I am kind of disappointed in the people commenting going ‘what’s actually disturbing are all the people who fell for it’, because this is just basic human psychology. People’s brains are basically fleshy computers, and if you can manage to find the right lever, anyone can fall for anything. I am not going to feel guilty about it, because from the sound of it he was just plagiarizing people whose voices and insights were actually valuable. He just shouldn’t get the credit for that. I did apologize to the person I shared a link to one video because I didn’t want to associate with it.
