i think the backrooms is very effective cosmic horror akin to lovecraft; it says humans aren't the Masters of the Universe and that the world is generally alien, cold, and uncaring, there's impossible geometries and the usual sanity effects, there's monsters and the limits of human knowledge, but there's also the possibility to fight back, to understand new rules and survive
