It strikes me that, in many respects, BBC mycroft and Marcone are the same.  Sherlock even has the ominous line about how Mycroft IS the British government, yet they're portrayed entirely differently.  With Marcone, it's a threat.  Clearly Evil.  With Mycroft, it's usually played for laughs, occasionally the 'he's annoying but I guess he is GOOD'.  Why? Because he's affiliated with the government?  That doesn't make 'whoops accidental stalking/orwellian state' GOOD.  (I am also fairly certain most of their business activities are at least similar including non-justice system executions, and I could also totally see Assistant lady as a Valkyrie.)
