stealing a good metaphor I heard from a friend about being a woman being in a social situation with a guy is like defensive driving
now, someone in the car behind you might *just* drive a little too fast and be a perfectly fine driver otherwise
but if they're ignoring your signals as you signal for a turn and they speed up as if they're gonna ram you...you're better off assuming that they're a terrible driver and being wrong and having nothing happen than assuming they're a great driver and being wrong and getting in a car crash
