the similarity in the dmc reboot I also see in RE7.  people who don't like it get written off as 'whiners' when it's just that we value different things out of the originals.  yeah, i love the survival horror part of it but do you know who most of the fanbase's favorite character is? barry burton. barry burton is the campiest dude to ever live and he's cool because of it (I'd argue the same is true for dante).  the camp doesn't detract from the story, it adds to it, but it also kind of makes the main storytelling subtle, which to be fair isn't really popular for a western audience (it's why the 'in your face' storytelling of the reboot is called 'subtle' and I'm pretty sure why people don't like Jotaro or Giorno in the west).  (Also to be fair it's not like our media *coughHollywoodcough* rewards thinking about subtle story so I'd think we overall aren't really trained for it unless you're an English major.)
that being said at least the people who made re7 didn't make fun of the old ones or tell you your taste was garbage but don't worry they'll 'reeducate you' because they know better than you what you want. they still held true to aspects of the original but what they ditched was stuff I and some other people actually liked about the series. that being said, re7 was still a good game with a story in the end, so there's a difference for you
