Well, there’s the issue of witnesses.  Scotty’s a useless witness, and all we get is people who arrived just after.

Do you know how many times fingerprints are planted (or the person picks up the weapon in shock)?  Only less likely is a message written in blood.

…do you, prefect, have something to hide?  You have something of the villainous air about you, although I wouldn’t like to assume.

(Kirk, do you do research about every planet you do shore leave on?  Did you start that after the last season?)

Usually in lie detector tests they start out with a few baseline establishing questions such as the ‘lie about your age’ thing.
