Death count: 1 crazy person (possessed?), Sam, Aurelan, entire species (?) of parasitoid aliens.
Fly into the next sun, cause another mass crazy event?
Bones not only knows about his brother but also where they were stationed and stuff. For someone as close about himself and his past as Kirk is (and make no mistake, he is, he doesn’t acknowledge his own feelings or anything else, usually), that’s a good sign of friendship.
Stop yelling at people who are only trying to help. I know that happens when you’re personally rattled, but seriously? Not helpful.
That wasn’t a while back, that was less than two minutes ago, man.
This is reminding me of either 42 or the episode with the Reavers.
Bones didn’t complain about the transporter. Probably knew it wasn’t the time.
Set phasers to stun.
Those are funky clubs.
Bones and his trusty hypos.
You should probably make sure to restrain the survivors, just so they don’t hurt themselves or others. Of course, that’s medical advice, and you know best.
Bones phrases it as a medical request. Because otherwise Kirk would run himself to the ground trying to fix it.
Bodysnatchers???
“Forcing us to build ships for them”? Maybe it’s due to that last episode, but…there’s an episode of Doctor Who, I’m pretty sure…more than just 42. Some kind of parasite, probably?
Oh, it just…killed her. To stop her from talking, probably.
That’s a really weird way of saying “nephew”.
The pain of losing a friend, a patient.
That seems like a trap. Like they’re actively trying to draw you in.
Well. My instinct was good. As was Kirk’s, but not soon enough.
That’s panic.
….eggs?? Like. Like that ‘zombie fungus’ Cordyceps, or the whole RE4 plotline. …This does a better job at being creepily unsettling, though. (Because we saw more of it from a character we cared about? The threat was there, for Leon, but we didn’t actually see it in action much…)
Don’t question the doc in the sickbay. (I liked that rant, though.)
That was…fast. They didn’t even have time to get the security teams out yet.
I woulda called for the restraints a looong time ago. Because if they’re not in control…well. That’s what they’re for, right.
That’s not Spock talking. (what was that from, a character trying to convince the others it’s fine, it’s them, and when they don’t fall for it snarling, biting, anything to hurt? ….Constantine maybe?? IDK)
And controlled by whooom, Spock?
Kirk’s slowly falling apart.
DON’T GIVE ME THE NEEDS OF THE MANY THING, BONES I CAN’T HANDLE THAT RIGHT NOW
You’re overlooking something rather obvious, Kirk. Just because he can’t necessarily help in person right now, he is a thinking person with very good thinking…thoughts. I kind of lost track of where I was going there, but point is, ask him to think his way around the problem. He can help just as easily from a bed. …uuuunless he breaks himself out, which is, well. Unwise or illogical.
He’s using violence, so I’m guessing it’s not him, but the creature.
Scotty, you managed to keep him trained under your phaser for the entire time until the Captain arrived? *Scottish accent* well done, sir!
Pain has been discontinued. Um. Okay then.
I think ‘complete control’ is probably a stretch. I also think the immense willpower of constantly controlling his mind to be 100% Vulcan is probably helpful. I just don’t know if it’s enough.
Override Bones’ medical opinion at your peril.
I’m sorry, Bones, I just don’t see an alternative. Not a viable one anyway. I refuse to just sit and wait for the end.
Well, he disarmed you rather easily. Fortunately, a Vulcan comes equipped with the Nerve Pinch.
What is making that noise???
Quarantine?? Well, glass. Maybe that counts in the future, IDK.
I’m amused that Bones is also going through with his tricorder and just constantly monitoring people who are hurt and should be in Sickbay.
And he’s like everyone’s overriding me today, dammit.
That is a huuuuge cell. What’s the largest cell we know of, yet? Six to twelve inch—okay, that’s. I guess it’s perfectly plausible, never mind.
What. Suicide? That’s an angle, but not a very acceptable one.
Oh, so it’s as resistant to difficult conditions as a tardigrade.
Well. You are doing that thing that most politicians/leaders do in demanding results yesterday but science is slow, science is methodical, science is double checking your results and not moving ahead before you’ve made absolutely sure that you filled out all that paperwork and have all the safety protocols in place and aren’t missing a thing.
And Spock, and your nephew.
Why didn’t anyone check into it earlier?
We know you’re angry about the loss of life, healer.
I refuse this binary either-or scenario. I’ll make a third solution even if I have to pull it into being myself.
He’s committed mutiny before, when he considered it logical and important to save people he cared about.
….Uhm. Is everyone blind? Did they not try specific elements? Higher concentrations than an M-class planet of hydrogen or helium? (that’s the same in all stars, right Google? Okay, the hydrogen burns into helium, so it’d probably give off helium) …on the off chance it doesn’t work, at least your voices will sound funny.
Light. Light’s also a possibility…but then. Oh, okay, that’s it. Maybe. (Light’s a form of radiation, though, I thought you said you looked at radiation. Bones.)
That’s his *I am onto something and I will make this work* face. And the others are thinking “You’re closest to a mad scientist if anything, but it does give you some rather unique ideas”
You’re still using the unit of candles?? (what other units are there? Not many, as it turns out. Interesting. …Spock, am I using that word correctly?)
Remember, in the equivalent of an eclipse or something, do not view without safe equipment!
How do you get it inside the body, though? As Kakyoin pointed out, that’s a really dark, secure place. It’s a little hard to get light inside the body.
What about this episode is making me science out so much?
Mostly, it’s the danger to the eyes. Especially if it’s artificial light, you won’t get the same types of radiation. (See, Bones agrees.)
Volunteering as part of the test group, eh?
Oh, but wait—if it’s. If it’s integrated into the nervous system, then it might only be able to see out the eyes of its host, in which case that might be the only way to actually attack it while it’s otherwise covered in the darkness of tissue and skin.
Yeah. He’d still be able to do his duties, particularly with the quasi-telepathy thing (I say ‘quasi’ not because I don’t believe it but because I’m not sure how well it works at a distance and whether he may be able to use it to Daredevil his way around), but it wouldn’t be the same.
…Where does it go when it dies? Does it just sit there, dead, and tissue grows around it? Is it broken down in any way?
Blind? Yeeeah, we thought that might happen…it might come back; we’ve been learning recently that sometimes neurons grow back, so.
IR? UV? Visible? Not visible, okay. Which side of the spectrum?
It’s not your fault.
It’s not that hard to say. Don’t walk away and leave everything broken—Kirk, are you—seriously???
That’s.
That’s visible light, but given that it’s reddish I’m thinking IR? Except that’s heat and that didn’t work…how well was the light spectrum understood back then? A quick search says they knew of IR but I’m not sure how well it was understood, only that it was there.
That’s a good thing anyway.
AND THERE YOU GO. Probably too late, but it’s still a necessary thing to say.
Did you not mention it you idiot? It might be nice to know “OH HEY I MIGHT REGAIN MY EYESIGHT” rather than letting us all get totally emotional about it. You know. In Vulcan terms.
“If you gentlemen are finished” is that? That’s the kind of way you’d say it like “stop flirting” kind of teasing. Kirk, your sense of humor is interesting. (or there’s another ship on the horizon. Whichever way you wish to read the text.)
His ears work fine.
And Kirk totally didn’t stop him, given how he’s grinning. He just let Bones walk into that. I’m just going to laugh at you, Kirk, you weirdo.
