my favorite moment in ST09

I admit I love time travel stories even when they don't 100% make sense, so there's that.  And in every film even Into Darkness which I hated on many, many levels, Bones was awesome and needed to be there more often.  I love that Pike got more of a role & would've preferred he be around longer (because, let's be honest, how often do we actually get a parental figure in literature?  NOT OFTEN ENOUGH giles is an exception and I love him) so that's one thing the JJAbrams films got right. (also the casting.  writing is questionable at times.  casting was perf.  well, for the main crew anyway)
But this scene.
Someone pointed out that his same brand of jerkishness exists from earlier in the film, which is true.  He doesn't have to act any more like a jerk to get Spock to lose it because he's already that guy (even though while being a jerk I don't think he'd say things that purposefully dig into someone's past unless provoked).  But this scene.
That slight vulnerability, that up until now he hasn't shown Uhura because he's been trying to impress her.  The way he jokes around about Bones' support all the while needing it.  Those moments where he just kind of looks lost like "okay, that worked, I can't believe it worked, I gotta figure out what's next"?  That open honesty?  That is so accurate to TOS!Jim Kirk and it is beautiful.  (It also...it's one of the things that got me earlier, before I'd even seen TOS, just like with Tony Stark--acting so confident, so in control, occasionally jerkish, but there's more to that interior than we see and character hooks like that are wonderful.)
(I checked out Beyond...I'm kind of nervous but excited to watch it
