Main Points:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure AU
Summary: Late night Crusader bonding experiences.
Word Count: 400
Rating: Gen, timing: this occurs some point after Death 13, so possibly *vague* spoilers.  I kept it pretty generic, though.

What feels like months later, they’re crossing the desert.  It’s Jotaro’s turn to keep watch, but Kakyoin’s a little too restless to sleep, still afraid of what will happen when he closes his eyes.  Still, he pretends to sleep, doesn’t need the others to be any more worried about him than they need to be.
And then he hears it, a beautiful, haunting melody that nearly convinces him he’s hallucinating.  He sits up, alarmed, Hierophant coiling protectively around him.  The song abruptly stops, leaving just the sound of cold winds swirling sand, and that if nothing else convinces him that was real.  “I didn’t mean to wake you,” a voice he knows very well states gruffly.
It’s unexpected.  A dream, perhaps.  Jotaro’s not the type, but.  The way he’s acting now, he’s embarrassed.
Kakyoin gets up carefully, shivering a little from the chill of the desert air, and goes to sit with Jotaro.  He doesn’t want to wake the others with their conversation.
“You didn’t have to stop,” he states honestly.  Jotaro has an amazing singing voice, one he could have easily mistaken as professional.  “We could have used you earlier today to drown out Polnareff.”
The other looks a little less uneasy, chuckling quietly before turning thoughtful again.  “I’m not used to an audience.”
“What, your mom doesn’t insist you sing for her?” Kakyoin asks, teasing.  I don’t have parents like that.  I want someone that supportive in my life.
Instantly, Jotaro stiffens.  He fishes out a cigarette silently, but doesn’t light it, just stares at it.
It’s probably for the best.  They don’t need a new beacon for the enemy, now that the fire’s died down.
“Both she and the old man would be annoying about it.”  He sighs.  “But music makes her sad.”
Kakyoin’s about to ask why, but then vaguely remembers someone mentioning the musician father.  Who’s always on tour.  He doesn’t ask.
Jotaro, he decides, is like the ocean.  You glance in and it’s this calm, placid surface, but there’s all this activity going on underneath the water that you never see.  And every now and then there are these storms, destructive in their terrible beauty.
“Well, it gave me hope,” Kakyoin states firmly, earning a smirk from his fellow student who appears to have cheered up somewhat.
“If you knew the English lyrics, you wouldn’t be saying that,” Jotaro warns, but he obliges anyway.
