Dante takes the walk to try to talk to the kid in his head. She’s not very talkative. The magic, whatever it is, seems to have mostly put her in a kind of stasis, to the point she’s not very conscious of what’s going on. Talking directly to her seems equally likely to get a response as not. Not very useful.

The spoiled brat is sticking really close. A bit uncomfortably close, honestly, but he’s not about to complain.

It would’ve been interesting to experiment a little, to find out a little more of what it’s like to be a girl, especially since it can be undone and he doesn’t have to worry about never seeing his beautiful bod again. But it’s not his body, and as usual, he has a job to do.

Sure, it’s not the ideal. They rarely are.

Even as it gets under his skin, he finds the challenge calling his name, a siren song.

“What’s your plan?” Red asks, uncharacteristically somber, and he glances over.

“The issue is keeping the two of you safe and ending this. I don’t really want to leave two lovely ladies on their own, but…”

“I might be okay with it, but I’m not sure about Lady Buffy there,” she whispers.

He nods, and then hears something. “Hang on.”

He thinks about warning them or something, but there’s not that much he can do. And he’s not letting innocents get hurt if he can help it.

He hands Dawn to the “Lady”, who looks absolutely terrified. “I hear another in need of my aid. If you need to, shoot. The spirit will instruct you in the use of this weapon.”

And he draws the dragon sword at his back and runs, as swiftly as he can go.

He’s almost tempted to laugh at the lady in the skintight catsuit. The dog-costume menacing her isn’t very dangerous, in contrast to everything else he’s seen. Still, he reaches for her and pulls, with something like his true strength.

There’s a rip, but she’s free. And glaring at him.

“How dare you?” she grits out, and he throws up his hands.

“My mistake. Next time you get attacked, I’ll just leave you there until something worse comes along,” he responds, and gets moving. He’s sure she’ll follow, if only to yell at him further, and is quickly proven right.

“I’ll never get my costume deposit back,” she moans, and he glances over.

“I think it’s an improvement,” he responds, and gets an uncertain glare.

That would’ve been a slap in his usual form, but apparently he gets a free pass for being a girl. However that works.

“What’s with that outfit? And the weapons? I’m surprised Principal Snyder even let a misfit like you in the building.”

Hey, comes the response in his head, but nothing follows it up. “I’m sure they didn’t look like this when I bought them,” he states easily and ends up blinking at the surety. Well, that’s a weird thought. This spell, whatever it was is strong enough to materialize Devil Arms, just like that? I don’t like the sound of that.

The damsel in a dress is standing, hands shaking, pointing the gun at his body. “H-how dare you abandon me, bodyguard?”

The outrage doesn’t do much to hide the fear.

“What the hell are you on?” the newcomer asks, rolling her eyes.

“The Middle Ages, I think,” Dante answers brightly, anything but helpful.

Red, meanwhile, looks like she’s had enough and sticks her head through the woman’s chest. She’d probably got an earful when he’d run off. “I’m a ghost.” Her tone is sweetly arsenic.

The newcomer actually looks a little hurt by that, but covers it up. “What’d you do, trip down the stairs?”

“Magic,” Red answers, rolling her eyes. “But wait, that doesn’t exist, does it?”

“I’m a demon slaye—er, slaying bodyguard.” Dante might as well go with the already established story, if only to not mess with the princess’s already fragile psyche. “Dante.”

The cat-lady rolls her eyes. “And I’m Cordy. Can we stop doing these childish roleplay games?”

Dante shrugs. “I enjoy them. Though if you really want to go on believing there’s here, be my guest. Just don’t blame me if you end up attending your own funeral. This town stinks of demon.”

“He’s not kidding, Cordy,” the ghost states, and adds, “Look, I might not like you, but I don’t wanna see you dead. Demons or not, this is still a town gone crazy and it’s safer to get inside and stay there.”

“With sane people, maybe,” Cordy corrects, but follows them anyway.
