Mokuba looks at his hand and sighs moodily.  “You know, this is really sort of cheating.”
“Come on, be a good sport, Mokie!  Seto gave us permission to borrow you, and it’s all for a good cause,” Yugi states cheerfully.  He’s close enough to her shoulder that she can feel his breath on her hand holding the cards.  “Okay, cards like this one?  They can be played either as quick-play spells, or in other words whenever the conditions are met, or you can set them like other spells and traps,” he tells her in a confidential whisper.
“I’m not really playing her, though.  I’m playing you, and I know I can’t beat you,” he complains.
“Well, why would I play it?  Isn’t it safer in my hand?” she asks, and Yugi immediately shakes his head.
“There are cards that can destroy it either way.  It’s really more up to you.  A personal preference thing.  Make sure to read all his face-ups, just to make sure that he’s not got some special effect in wait.  Like if he’s got White Magical Hat—that can destroy a card from your hand at random, so it’s better to set the cards you don’t want to lose that way until you destroy it.  Or that facedown could be Harpies’ Feather Duster.  You have to take into account everything he’s got on the field or possibly in his hand, and decide what you’re most comfortable with,” he explains, and it seems like he knows more of the technical aspects of a children’s card game than he does about music or being a star.
“Didn’t you have lessons?” she asks, astonished, and he shrugs, smiling apologetically.
“I guess.  I mean, Kaiba paid for lessons, and I was there, but…I don’t honestly actually remember much.  But I guess I must’ve absorbed something, if so many people like what I’m doing.”  He looks so innocent, and there’s no sign of that cynic she’d seen around the stage, but there must be something of him in there.
But, still.  As much as it’s a mystery, she doesn’t want to probe further.  She likes this one, the cheerful, precious one that seems too innocent to be living in such a harsh world.  She wants to gather him into a protective hug and never let go.
He’d probably make one of those really cute, confused faces at her.  And if he got an idea why, well.
They’d gotten ice cream, and the lady had said something about how cute it was that she was treating her son, and he’d nearly had a fit.  “I’m an adult!” he yelled, face red, drawing himself to the extent of his admittedly short height.  He pulls out an insurance card, brandishing it like it’s some kind of weapon.  (She’s later seen that that’s actually how he deals with all cards, if Duel Monsters is any indication.)
He’s utterly incapable of being intimidating, though, at least when he’s not in full Pharaoh mode, so that just earned a laugh and a pat on the head and a comment about how he’s still adorable.  He pouts, but finishes the ice cream just fine.
She decides to place it and sacrifices her Petit Angel to Tribute Summon Airknight Parshath, which earns an approving noise from Yugi.
Mokuba groans, which grows louder when he sees what she’s playing.
“Now…Battle Phase?  And for that, I’ll attack your Set card!”  She still feels a little unsure of herself, but she’s starting to feel a confidence she’s missed for what seems like centuries.  “According to this card, Air Knight Parshath can do piercing damage, which means that any damage above your Monster’s Defense is subtracted from your Life Points.”
Mokuba glares, not at her, but at Yugi.  “She’s wayyy too good of a student,” he whines, and that earns an indulgent smile.
“Fine, I’ll owe you one.  Again.  You might’ve earned enough favors, I’ll see what I can do about getting your girlfriend on staff, on a contractual basis, anyway.  I don’t think even I can argue Kaiba into permanent employee.”
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Mokuba argues, before smiling at them both.  “But she is really cute and smart, and I’ll talk Seto into it, eventually.”
“That’s 1650 Life Point damage,” the computer (which had taken a little while to get used to) informs them.  “Mokuba has 1350 Life Points remaining.  Anzu has 3000 Life Points.”
“And then I draw a card.”  It seems a little anticlimactic.
“But you sent my Sinister Serpent to the Graveyard.  I’d be careful, Anzu.  I’ve heard it’s nesting season.”  And with a little Kaiba-like chuckle, Mokuba sits back.  “Well, Anzu?  Your move.”
It really is.  Even with Yugi giving her hints and advice over her shoulder, he’s not telling her directly what to do.  He trusts that she’s intelligent enough to find it on her own, or even to come up with something better than he had.  It’s an addicting feeling.
