When he wakes up, Yugi nearly has a heart attack.  She’s not sleeping close, but Téa’s curled up at the end of his bed, a cute smile on her face.  He gets up and dashes outside to his Grandpa’s laughter, hiding outside for a bit until he can calm down.  Do not think about Téa on your bed.  Do not.  She might have declared herself your girlfriend last night, but there’s such a thing as going too far.  You’ll be the gentleman.
…I knew I should’ve gotten out the futon and offered her the bed, but I was just too tired yesterday.  Somehow, I slept through dinner and the rest of the night.  I mean, it’s early this morning, but that’s still a lot of sleeping.
He watches the sun come up for a few minutes before heading back inside.
Grandpa chuckles.  “Good morning, Yugi.”  He must’ve gotten back late last night and decided not to wake them up.  It’s a violation of their ‘check in when you come back so I know you weren’t kidnapped or sucked into a game’ policy, but he’ll ignore that for the time being unless it happens again.
Yugi sighs and stifles a yawn.  He’s still a little groggy.  “Don’t start, please,” he begs.
“I would’ve thought you would’ve been happy,” Grandpa frowns, bringing his cup of tea.  “What’s the problem?”
“I don’t want to mess this up,” he states miserably, hiding his head in his hands.
He feels a reassuring hand on his shoulder.  “Yugi, you are a wonderful young man, with a lot to offer.  Follow your heart, and you’ll do fine.”
He sighs again but looks up to his grandfather’s encouraging expression.  “Thanks, Grandpa.”
“She is a great young woman.  And no, not just beautiful.”  Solomon Muto winks.
The young man groans.  “See if I look to you for a pep talk anytime soon.”  He can’t muster any real annoyance, though.  “Speaking of things I don’t want to think about, Hashira-san stopped by yesterday.  She didn’t finish her shopping, so I set aside a few cards she wanted to buy.”
That earns yet another chuckle.  “And what will you kids be doing today?”
It’s not exactly subtle, but Yugi ignores that.  “Actually, Joey mentioned something about meeting up this afternoon to talk about the upcoming tournament.”
“Aaand when were you going to mention that?” Téa asks from the top of the stairs.
“Well, I didn’t know you were even going to be in town, and—”  Yugi notes the expression on her face.  “I’ll tell you next time.”
“That’s better.”  She smiles and stretches.  “I’m starving.”
“Speaking of which, I’m actually a little hungry myself…” Yugi realizes, voice quiet.
“I can take a hint.  No, Miss Gardner, sit down with Yugi.  You’re a guest!”  Soon Grandpa’s making multiple omelets, and Yugi’s a little nervous again.
Just be yourself, a reasonable voice tells him.  It sounds suspiciously like Yami.  And there’s the rest of his thoughts: What the hell?  She’s my oldest friend.  I need to be able to talk to her.  I want to talk to her.  So I’m gonna talk to her.  Nothing can stop me if I put my mind to it, so I need to stop being stupid.  “Well, did you sleep well?”  That brings up awkward things, so he hurriedly skips past it.  “But, yeah, the tournament in general is…well, it’s mysterious.”
She nods and doesn’t answer his question.  “I noticed.  They didn’t say who’s hosting it, for one thing, and if you didn’t declare me your plus one…”
              “Who did?” Yugi finishes.
“What’s this?”  Grandpa, with three plates, comes up behind them, and Yugi jumps a little.
“N-nothing you need to worry about.”  He’s been trying to avoid getting Grandpa into any of it, hates seeing the ones he loves in danger.
“You are probably one of the worst liars I know,” Grandpa sighs, exchanging a knowing look with Téa.  “I’ve been getting strange feelings about this tournament myself, but I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to worry you.  The thought of a normal tournament was the most excited I’ve seen you in months.”
The King of Games sighs.  “Well, if nothing else, we’ve always managed to overcome every obstacle together.  No matter what’s coming, this tournament will be no different.”
“That’s the spirit!” Grandpa smiles, and Téa manages a cheer.  They give their traditional thanks, and then they all start eating.
