I know a lot of people like to hold especially Xander’s advice against him, specifically not passing on the re-ensoulment thing and then telling Buffy to go after Riley, and I am hereby diagnosing him with...the tendency to give the kind of advice he would want to hear rather than the kind of advice that would be useful to the recipient.  It is super common and happens all the time.  Not everyone’s good at giving advice, especially when you’re young.
