Note: HERE THERE PROBABLY BE BUFFY/JJBA SPOILERS

Well, it does seem like Rush is going to at least have a little more trouble pulling whatever he’s planning off, mostly because Buffy seems to have actually figured out how to imbue Luck & Pluck with hamon. Her breathing’s better, and when Xander was younger he would have been envious, but now he’s just proud and happy that it gives her a chance for living longer. She’d picked that up quick, but she’d probably been thinking about her breathing in combat for years between the Slayage and the cheerleading, and she has the Slayer stamina, too. Rush’s signs of smugness haven’t exactly disappeared, but they...cracked. His smile at this point looks more like a broken porcelain mask ready to shatter, and he’s only keeping it up so they don’t think they have an advantage after he’d taken out Robin.
They do, at the moment, with a whole three Hamon Users among them, though Josephine’s knowledge isn’t exactly trained or reliable, and Xander knows a fight can easily turn at a moment’s notice. Because analyzing Rush fight, he’s not used to fighting, not this many. He’s not a coward, but his cautious attitude means that he’s probably been hesitant all his life to take on more than one opponent at a time, so while his Stand is protecting him, he doesn’t have the experience with his brand-new Stand to understand how it works immediately and doesn’t know how to change his strategy to fight multiple people, at least not when he’s present. Setting traps for an entire building was one thing, but actually being there in person is something else. And, fortunately, it doesn’t seem like he’s one of the Stand Users that has an immediate instinctual understanding of his Stand.
His Stand is at least standing up against a barrage of Star Platinum punches (it’s mostly the precision helping out here, letting him avoid hitting any of the allies), with the occasional Emerald Splash when Kakyoin can get the angle just right. Giorno and Josuke seem to have concocted some sort of scheme with Willow’s help to try to root Rush in place, with Crazy Diamond breaking the concrete under Rush’s feet, Gold Experience turning the broken, reforming concrete into twisting vines, and Willow reinforcing those vines with magic. It hasn’t worked yet, but having to kick them off is slowing Rush down, and it’s a pretty clever line of thought. He can just shrug off the attacks for a while, but forever? That’s not a general thing a Stand can do, and if he’s surrounded and the armor weighs him down at all, it’s hard for him to avoid it.
Buffy’s the one that notices first. She’s pulling Josuke and Willow out of the way before Johan can even process the fountain of water. Jotaro only gets Star Platinum out of the way using timestop, Johan’s fairly certain. As for Gold Experience and Giorno, the changed appearance of the Stand says that he’d used Gold Experience Requiem in some limited way to undo the effect of the water. Looks like he’d had probably some kind of secondary explosive set up after the first. Even Johan gets knocked off his feet where he’s standing. At least it’s not immediately killing him, but then, even Rush would probably have issues smuggling in diatoms or acids.
That doesn’t mean that it’s harmless, though. Some of them dive for cover behind the building or, in Johan’s case, in the clock tower; it’s the closest thing to where he’s been carried by the water. The mechanical sound of the gears turning combines with the rat-tat of water being fired like a machine gun. Rush is generally silent, not indulging with a stereotypical villain speech this time, but the porcelain smile is being repaired as he gains confidence in his Stand. Star Platinum’s ora rush is enough to deflect the sewer lid being thrown at him like a twisted version of Captain America’s shield. It embeds itself deeply in the wall near Jotaro. He doesn’t flinch or adjust his posture at all as he has to keep going to deflect the water bullets, hat still perfectly perched on his head, but from the way his hand goes knuckle white clenched into a fist before he jams it into his pockets, this is deeply frustrating him.
Buffy just matches Rush’s smirk. She’s careful not to move into line of fire as she crouches down and puts a single hand into the water by her feet. Johan can read her mind and knows exactly what she’s thinking, and it’s a bit of a risk on his end but between the two of them it’s worth it. Some of the bullets hit Pretender’s unprotected shoulder, but the Stand is mostly managing to angle his body so they hit the armored arms and legs. “Sunlight Blue Shockwave!” they yell simultaneously, allowing the golden ripples to spread through the water. Unfortunately, a little practice at the Way House wasn’t enough to have the technique down perfectly, but it’s easy enough to match his breathing to Buffy based on the difference in tempo he can feel in the water, and he feels the sudden spike in energy. Rush actually yells out before the feeling of a figure in the center of the attack disappears completely, and from Pretender’s eyes Johan can see Rush is manipulating the water so it doesn’t touch him. Rather than being submerged, now, he’s standing in a dry center surrounded by walls of water.
Rush does actually bother to respond this time, voice ringing out with authority. “It wasn’t a bad trap, I figure. But I’m smart enough to have noticed. Impure water is an ideal Hamon channel.”
Yeah, yeah. Given how meticulous he is, he’s probably made as good if not better of a study of the ins and outs of hamon than many of the Hamon Masters back in the day, but at least it’d put a stop to all the water-fire. Another round of Emerald Splash just gets trapped in the water mere inches from him, even when fired from all angles. It does confirm Johan’s suspicion that Kakyoin had, in fact, spread out Hierophant and simply wasn’t firing from every angle to avoid hitting allies; when they’re not crowded around anymore, there’s no reason to hold back.
And then the shadow flies overhead again, only this time, Whisper opens his beak, dropping the wasp-thing directly onto Rush.
