Not really a warning, but Mulder being Mulder.

The first thing that Mulder is aware of is that he’s lost time. Again. That, or maybe he’s had his memories wiped. Which would also unfortunately be ‘again’, much as he’d like to keep that to a one-time thing. A glance at his watch doesn’t help at all. At least he’s not alone. Scully’s here, though she’s not on her feet, like he is. He helps her up, and she thanks him, but he’s already noticing something.
That’s not new. He’s always noticing something, mind constantly racing even when he’s relaxing. Scully helps, lets his mind at least reach some semblance of ordered chaos. There’s no sign of why she’s on the street, but then, having some clue to that would probably require remembering why they’re here in the first place. Being in a strange city isn’t out of place, given their profession. Something else, on the other hand, is pretty obviously wrong. Scully’s probably about to ask him something, but he interrupts her. “Okay, Scully, I know you can explain pretty much everything, but I don’t suppose you could explain boobs.”
It’s not the first time he’s said something like that to her, especially after they’ve both started getting more comfortable with each other, but she still gives him a dirty look, probably equally annoyed at him trying to drag her into a conversation like this and thinking he’s just wasting time when they have work to do. “I think you’ve made quite the study on that without my help.”
Not yours. Mine.” He grabs them for emphasis. Normally he wouldn’t go this far, but given that they’re somehow attached to him he figures the only one to complain about getting handsy would be him. Scully’s mouth is open as she looks him over, probably about to say something else. It closes when she actually observes him and finds she’s speechless. Which is fair enough. Mulder had been at a loss himself, which is why he turned to the smartest person he knows.
Knock it off, Mulder.” She’s a little flustered, which would be adorable under different circumstances.
He stops, raising his hands in mock surrender. “You and I know it was the fastest way.” She could deny anything else. This specifically is a little harder. He knows her well enough by now to know that she’s panicking slightly, trying to reason away the unexplained. That’s going to take her long enough anyway without him going straight to the one thing she can’t just wave off like it’s nothing. Like the fact that their suits aren’t as great quality as usual. While this tie definitely looks like one he would’ve bought, it’s not one of his. And it’s not like he’s completely stumped, either; he always has ideas. But as far as X-Files go, this one’s fairly unique. “If you have any good explanations for anything that’s happening, I’m all ears.”
...This is a dream?” It’s weak, for her, but it’s hard to explain any of this scientifically. “Why not offer your ideas? You’re usually full of them.”
From anyone else it’d be mockery. From her, even with the tone, she does want to hear what he has to think even if she doesn’t believe a word of it. “Well, it’s not astral projection or ESP. I figure you would’ve told me if you were taking classes with some guru, and that’s ignoring the fact that both of us are here.”
She smiles despite herself. Apparently his humor is helping her even if she’s still not really ready for whatever this is.
I’d say reincarnation, but I don’t particularly remember dying or being reborn as a woman. And I definitely feel like you pull it off more than I ever could. This isn’t exactly her either, but that’s less obvious just by looking. Their relative heights are about right and anything else, like the houses or the car parked down the street, are too far away for it to be as obvious as this.
You’re selling yourself short, Mulder,” Scully tells him, amused, and he strikes a pose. She laughs, so he goes back to the original point.
The closest concept would be the ‘walk-in soul’, a New Age hypothesis from the 70s largely proposed by Ruth Montgomery, a political journalist turned psychic guru, but that supposedly usually occurs right after a near-death experience. Missing memories and personality changes are characteristic.”
That sounds more like general trauma, Mulder. Dissociation or a re-evaluation of one’s life are common after near-death experiences.” It’s good to see her shift back into a more comfortable position even if it’s just from second-guessing all of his theories.
Mulder nods. “It might surprise you to find that this is one fringe concept I don’t happen to believe. I have yet to find any evidence that would suggest the validity of such accounts—many psychics are even skeptics.” Inadvertently he sees the body he doesn’t recognize when he starts to glance around again and swallows. “Then again, sometimes seeing is believing.”
