Summary: The Demon Duelist learns the error of his ways.

A Von Karma is always perfect. It had been a hard lesson to learn, but Miles was a bright guy. He learned his lesson well.
His father was dead because he had been weak. He had relied on emotion, not power, to win, and that was why he had lost. Miles Edgeworth wan’t going to make the same mistake.
So then come the ruthless tactics. The accusations of cheating, but every judge has declared his moves perfectly legal. He’s even sometimes needlessly cruel. At some point, his reputation alone was enough to win many duels. The Demon Duelist. For the rest, his deck’s overwhelming strength was enough.
And then Phoenix returned, trailing fiery winds of change in his wake. Miles had fought that change, clawing and screaming, but Wright was ruthless in his own way, refusing to give up on a friend no matter how idiotic the quest. The man was everything that he had come to see as weak—foolish, emotional, sometimes even fumbling—but he handed Edgeworth loss after loss, and then came the inferno, burning down everything that Miles had known.
Everything that he had built upon, the sure foundations of Edgeworth’s world, was ash. Von Karma had cheated through the use of magic. Which was real, not a fairytale, as he’d taunted Phoenix with, secure in knowledge that, in the end, was anything but secure. His father had died by his adoptive father’s hand, not by his own weakness. He had to reevaluate everything he knew.
Fortunately, he had a new paradigm. The intimidation and wordplay he couldn’t discard, but his idea of strength? He had met one who seemed anything but. One who appeared weak, but despite all odds could succeed. And perhaps, someday, he would be confident in using the word ‘friend’ once more.
