This became really really long, but. Park. Should’ve expected that.
Sorry, Desmond.
Also * snickers * Shaun you are such a nerd.
This chapter was definitely inspired heavily by the Birthday Massacre song Goodnight, because the first time I heard the lyrics after starting to write this I was like...this feels like a Bill (and a tiny bit of Desmond’s insecurities) song.
I was writing the name and went—wait, wasn’t that the name of the Assassin in the film—yeah it was okay. Weird coincidence #302.
( nothing exceptional/this is correctional )
Desmond you say that but it’s still bugging you, you’re just so used to it that you haven’t noticed it’s bugging you.
and not that most people are playing it, but happy majima pirate launch day
( lost in time )
I nearly wrote ‘faculty’ and then was like, wait, using that word would not be second nature for Desmond.
( or explosions )
( or water )
I looked up the shortened form of usual, because it’s totally a word Danny would use. There is no normal spelling and they all look weird. I think yoozh looks the least weird. Then I ended up editing it out of his dialogue. Normal writer things.
We’re getting into the history of the area and why it’s so cursed, so this is your warning: suicide, multiple tragic deaths and murders. And, uh. This is, like. 75% of it. 10% is an elaboration on some of the points that are already present.
( kill it with fire )
Main Points: Assassin's Creed/The Secret World
Summary: Hey, Sonnac, it’s me, your old favorite. Reports enclosed on my observations, written by only the best, the brightest, the sexiest agent we have, yours truly, as ordered, etc. -R.C.
*Templar Bees often get greeted with a teasing or envious “you’re Sonnac’s new favorite”.

Spoilers marked by the name
with every single conversation with Nicholas Desmond was like “okay all of this is nice and interesting could you please go back to safety” which isn’t a normal Bee reaction.
Also it turns out he sidestepped doing the Phoenician mission entirely, mostly because Chelsea & crew were returning and the Phoenicians sent the truce and are taking it seriously...which conversely means Chelsea’s going to have to fill him in on a few things because that’s kind of crucial info.
Also in-game Nicholas Winter says that he sought refuge in the highest location he could find. Which would be the Ferris Wheel. If he’d stepped foot in there, he wouldn’t have left.
Thinking about it it makes so much sense as to why there’s continual family tragedies associated with the park but the why is a bit spoilery. We’ll get there.
( in the shadow )
( even the newest )
( first reports to Sonnac )
( with blind faith and false pride )
Going back through to see if they talked about it and no, it was Shaun and Rebecca that discussed it and Shaun absolutely called Desmond’s reaction. Well, half right anyway. He didn’t think Desmond had actually thought about it.
Hey a wild reference to Bloodlines would you look at that
also yes desmond but you might remember you did have a big fight about the past once already so shaun had a good reason to think that might be a touchy subject
only the bit at the end was planned, but then I remembered oh hey Rebecca has the surveillance stuff and she absolutely wouldn’t let this slide now that she’s back and then suddenly I was at over 3000 words how does this happen I ask of you
( checking in with haste )
( the interruption )
Interpret the term partner however you want—there’s no context or follow-up in game, and these characters work well with a bit of mystery.
( confirmation )
( visions lead the way )
Desmond decided to opt out of doing any missions for Bach, because as much as he doesn’t like Edgar, Bach really rubbed him the wrong way. Probably the ‘war journalist who loves watching the show rather than actually wanting any of it to stop’ bit. Even though dealing with Theodore Wicker’s issues and demons is a good thing to do. Fortunately, he’s got Agents now.
( hell's motel )
...I forgot about Edgar verbally threatening Tango and Cash. They’re loyal enough where they saved him from the fog, but...dogs also show loyalty sometimes in situations they shouldn’t, and Desmond’s definitely thinking about putting him on the hit list.
This chapter also ended up taking approximately forever because I was trying to figure out what Desmond would name the dog only to have that not end up being at all important. That’s writing for you.
There’s a character later who’s a King reference. I decided to just make him his own thing.
I wrote, like, 90% of this the Tuesday of the election, and then was too depressed to even look at this again until I made the decision I was going to keep going.
