Which...now that it’s a thought that’s occurred to her, she can’t rule it out. She has to assume that Rush wouldn’t just leave something alive that would be a threat to him—but then, that doesn’t mean that this Diavolo might not be a threat to anyone else who might stumble on his lab.
Giorno’s smile is beautific and frankly more than a little terrifying. “For once, the same thing as you, I presume. Unless you would prefer to continue to be kept as a pet, a trophy, for the man who lives here.”
Diavolo snarls at the suggestion. If glares (from this...head, at least) could kill, Giorno would be dead. Then again, that’s not the first time, and it probably won’t be the last. In his position Giorno probably gets a lot of people wishing he’d drop dead—for what he’s done, or to take his place, or whatever.
He doesn’t move around much in the jar he’s floating in, which probably indicates he’s not going to be able to fling himself out of the jar to try to bite Giorno’s neck or whatever else you can do when you’re just a living head. It would make sense, generally, given that the neck is kind of where the muscles to move your head normally are, but then he’s also a living head in a jar, so maybe sense doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the situation. For one thing, his voice sounds normal, not garbled like it should be underwater.
A slight crimson flicker flares around him, fast enough that she would have missed it if she had blinked. She’s absolutely not going to let down her guard thinking Diavolo is completely defenseless, but...it’s possible he’d just tried to attack them with a Stand and couldn’t. Diavolo being an evil Stand User would make sense, if he’d opposed Giorno. And it looks like Giorno’s coming to the same conclusion about the potential Stand attack. The oppressive atmosphere only deepens, even though not even his Stand stiffens in response.
“Giovanna, don’t claim kindness. I know there isn’t a merciful bone in your body,” Diavolo eventually grits out when the silence has apparently gotten too much for him.
“For you, no,” Giorno agrees, perfectly cold and cruel. He considers, pose turning thoughtful. “But then, perhaps this is something we hold in common. I need not lie when we both know where we stand. In that case, I have a different question for you. Even if I do not release you, here, perhaps you will accept this: that you and I have a vested interest in obliterating this man named Rush.”
Diavolo closes his eyes, long pink hair fanning around him, and then opens them again, fierce and hungry, a distorted mirror. “And you will make him suffer as I have suffered?” he asks eagerly.
“I cannot promise it will be Gold Experience Requiem dealing the final blow, but will say this. He will absolutely suffer. He has done too much for his fate to be anything less.” Giorno is nothing less than completely and totally sure. It’s also kind of impressive. Buffy hasn’t felt that confident about anything in years. And—hang on, Requiem? He’s never called his Stand that before; what’s that about? Maybe the Arrow allows for a second power-up? It would explain why Jotaro and some of the others were so unsure about leaving Giorno’s Arrow with him, even though they probably didn’t have the authority to take it from him in the first place.
It sounds kind of like a bad trade. Diavolo kind of hates Giorno, so if he’s just going for revenge he could lead them into a trap and it would accomplish the same goal. It just depends on whether he hates Giorno or Rush more. Or maybe he’d just refuse to help and let them stew in that. Instead, Diavolo just waits—long enough, possibly, to make them all antsy—and then agrees verbally (maybe because he can’t nod). “Very well. Ask your questions.”
Giorno nods (maybe to mock Diavolo because Giorno still has a neck; it’s hard to say, really), pulling up a stool and perching regally. “To start with, how did Rush undo the power of Gold Experience Requiem?”
“He didn’t,” Diavolo states shortly, clearly enjoying the idea of frustrating Giorno and toying with him, even though, again, Giorno shows no sign. (Buffy’s starting to wonder if he’s going to let loose later, if that’s how he deals with it. She could get that, if so.) Again, after waiting, he continues. “I appeared in the river outside, drowning.”
Giorno just nods like that makes any sense whatsoever. Sense has truly left the building, actually.
Diavolo continues his story. “He found me, coming in on his own boat. Paralyzed me, I think, though I don’t know what with. When I woke up again hours later I knew this was one of the lengthier deaths.”
Buffy...continues to have questions about all of this.
“And then he cut off my head and applied something. I expected to die—and I did, I think. Only when I woke back up—I was in the jar.” That...has to suck. Even for a bad guy.
The oppressive feeling relaxes only slightly. He’d been worried about his power, it seems. “He...interrupted it, somehow.”
Diavolo continues, following off that sentence like they weren’t actual enemies. Maybe they were right about the similarities. “Interrupted it, but didn’t end it. Sometimes, if he turns the jar, I’ll see on the monitors—I’m fairly sure it’s a gaze from my viewpoint. I might not have recognized it if it didn’t look the same, sometimes, for Doppio.”
Buffy has even more questions, and is equally almost as certain that Giorno would not be inclined to answer any of them. But then as she looks around, she catches a glimpse of something and thinks that maybe one of those questions got answered after all, because that looks awfully like the interior of the new Slayer HQ. And maybe the interior of Xander’s room. Complete with him looking at Josephine with only one eye. And then, as she keeps looking, she finds, among all the other jars with eyes, one that just has a single brown eye, the exact shade that reminds her of how Xander’s eye.

As usual, Giorno doesn’t let his frustration get the better of him. His self-control really is impressive. Buffy couldn’t manage that, for sure. She’s kind of given up pretending she doesn’t have a temper. Giorno doesn’t sigh. She’s not sure he even blinks. He just continues staring at the head, Stand at the ready like it’s going to be able to attack them.
