This isn’t much, but I had the line about the Palantir sitting around for ages and decided I should probably do something with it.
Main Points:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Assassin's Creed (The Meddling Gene)
Summary: Xander has a warning.
Word Count: 365
Rating: Teen
Speaking up is maybe not the best idea, but Xander’s the king of bad ideas and it’ll be on his conscience if this goes really wrong and he didn’t issue a warning. “I vehemently deny being the Lord of the Rings nerd; that’s Andrew. Following this disclaimer prompted by absolutely nothing in specific, I’m calling it now, the thing you’re looking for looks like a Palantir. Maybe no one should touch it with bare hands.”
Shaun’s stare is calculating, but then, he and Rebecca have been trying to make sense of Xander ever since Buffy called. Again, he wishes them luck, because he hasn’t managed it yet and he’s had to live with himself ever since he was born. Maybe a psychologist or something would have a chance, but a historian and a computer scientist without the history or data to work off? That’d be a miracle.
“Know something about Pieces of Eden, then, do you?” They really want him to make a mistake that they can start researching, he can tell, and the thing is, he has, he’s made about a million of them, but none of them are the kind of clues they’d pick up on because they don’t have the context. The Assassins or the Templars. Like, with the initial reaction to him accidentally mentioning demons, because he’d thought the new flavor of Big Bad knew. Even now he gets the feeling—for the moment anyway—that they’re still just interpreting ‘demon’ in some way that makes sense to them. That might change, though, maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll still just keep interpreting everything through their own frame of reference. Xander’s really not used to being lucky, so he’s guessing that’s not how it’s going to work, but a man can hope.
“They showed me a few videos, back when I was being held captive. I think they were trying to get me to give away something, but I didn’t know anything to give away. It looked like it was touch activated, like, biotech maybe. That I’ll own as having watched a little too much Babylon 5.” He shrugs at the expression. “I’ll admit to being a nerd, but I prefer SciFi.”
