“Oh, are you the boyfriend? If so, I’ve got a shovel speech for ya. If you hurt her, seriously hurt her, I don’t care that you work in a national organization dedicated to stopping this sort of thing, you’re not safe. There’s nowhere you can hide. And, well. You’re an author, right? I’m sure your imagination can come up with a dozen things that might happen, and let me tell you right now, I’ve read your books. Good. You’ve got a good imagination, a way with words. They can’t even begin to paint the picture. And, I guess, this is also part warning. I’ll not be the only one in line. Gibbs and I will duke it out for who gets first dibs to whup your ass. And there’s Wills. You don’t even know her. She’s a lot like Abby, which means that she, too, is a scary force to be reckoned with.” The lone eye narrows, and the eyepatched man studies the agent for a moment before he nods, pleased with the response. “…But all that’s if you fail. You don’t have anything to worry about if you do it right.”
Tim wonders if his retreat is too obvious. It probably is. Especially when the madman with the eyepatch calls after him good-naturedly, “Have a good day, Agent McGee.”
