Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha

Since that day, Raidou had taken to leaving notes for Narumi to read. One of the most shocking, honestly, was the one that said Gouto used to be human. I’m definitely not supposed to tell you who he used to be.
He committed them all to memory and then burned them. Since Raidou was writing them down, he probably didn’t want Gouto to hear or for either of them to get in trouble. Well, that, and writing was probably more comfortable for him than talking.
He’d learned a lot more about the world of Summoning.
There were four Great Summoner families. These were the only ones allowed to use the Kuzunoha name. The ones Jōhei knew about were Kyouji, Raidou, and Geirin. The fourth was not generally known even to other Devil Summoners. Raidou suspects that the final family’s purpose was to do jobs no one else would, and therefore it’s better if no one knows much about them. They might be related to the Tsukigata. He doesn’t know a lot about the Kyouji, either, because he’s never interacted with one before. The Geirin are based in the countryside and learn via apprenticeships. Interestingly enough, the Geirin choose their apprentices without seeking the Yatagarasu’s approval, a practice that the Herald at least wants to end. They don’t want to make an enemy of the Geirin, though. They’re the oldest of the Summoner families. They existed before the Kuzunoha name even existed.
Jōhei knows the most about the Raidou. Like most of the families, certain villages trained the young ones to become Kuzunoha, and then, those who were strong enough were taken from their families at the age of ten to train. Narumi was slightly concerned about evil Summoners arising from jealousy, until he was told that most trainees died somewhere along the path of knowledge, which concerned him even further.
Still, it explains Jōhei’s quiet confidence. Surviving when so many had not means he had earned his place.
Lesser Summoner families also exist, including the Shirogane, Senno, Tsukamoto, and Minegishi.
