        meeting with larry, miles is fairly certain, is always a mistake.  this time was not even on purpose.  his excitable childhood acquaintance had thought he needed to thank edgeworth, too, despite the fact that the prosecutor had barely done anything.
        it had turned into a whining situation when the man had noticed the bouquet, with larry complaining about how a whole horde of women was lining up to date him and he wasn’t interested.  (he’d lost his temper and yelled about how he wasn’t that kind of person, larry, he was gay, last time the topic had come up.  as with most conversations with larry, he’s fairly certain this was a mistake.)  this time, he’d pointedly told the man that if he wished the attentions of oldbag he was welcome to them.
        it had been an off-handed comment as he was leaving.  “you gotta teach me how you do this!  hell, you even had nick twisted around your middle finger.”
        that gives him pause.  “what do you mean?” he asks shortly, pretending he’s not interested even though he is very curious.
        “did you know he changed his major just to meet you again?” larry scoffs, and that’s certainly not information wright has seen fit to share.  he wanted so badly to be miles’ friend again, a circumstance that prosecutor miles edgeworth had not seen as realistic at first until the man had managed to drag out the truth into the light after so many long years.  fortunately, before he can get too lost in thought larry once again interrupts with his nagging.  “you’ve got some sort of magic.  come on, edgey, tell me.”
        “i am as baffled as you, for once,” he responds, voice sharp.
        “i’m guessing that means you’re confused, too.”  of course, his vocabulary has not improved since they were in third grade.  “well, uh, think about it, and let me know if you think of something. i really think i’m ready to move on from sarah.  she wouldn’t want me moping around for the rest of my life like this.”
        miles doesn’t know who sarah is.  doesn’t care, really.  very little changes.  for all he hears about larry’s girlfriends, they’re all interchangeable.
        he doesn’t consider himself a sentimental man, but he likes to categorize things about the people he cares about.  he suspects larry might do better if he bothered talking about his girlfriends in more terms than ‘beautiful’ and ‘model’.  he would sooner willingly brave an earthquake than say this, though.
        he waits until larry leaves before he very carefully goes and begins a pot of water boiling.  he feels like he requires a cup of tea to deal with the day’s revelations.  edgeworth swallows as he picks up the cup.  this is probably, he reflects, the only time the butz has ever made him think about anything.
        point one: wright had certainly been as persistent as oldbag.
        point two: he did not mind if it was wright.
        point three: it was so intrusive and annoying, if not upsetting, because it was unwanted from oldbag.
        point four: it was not unwanted when it came from wright.
        point five: he was, as he’d unwisely told larry, gay.
        point six: to reiterate the point, romantic gestures were not unwanted when they come from wright.
        point seven: he is avoiding the conclusion, because the vulnerability scares him.
        point eight: he needs to think about this further, of course, but he might find wright—phoenix—attractive.  and judging by the man’s actions, he might not be alone in having feelings.  taking the bar alone is not a task undertaken lightly.
