He knows that Kristoph und even his parents disapproved. Well, Stiefmutter. Thought, once it’d developed in adolescence, that he was too distracted, mit his head in the clouds (like that’s changed at all since childhood, even with the forming of a Link).
But they had boundaries. His Linked insisted on them, in fact, so they’d both worked, blocking out thoughts and feelings until both could do so nearly effortlessly. Any time they slipped, almost referring to actual names, they’d managed to essentially mute the Link, like messing with a soundboard, although that, too, becomes easier with practice. His Linked insists on nicknames and nothing too identifying (Klavier had chafed at that restriction until he’d realized his fellow teen was panicking at merely his use of Deutsch, so Klavier didn’t bother to correct him on the misconception that he und his Bruder actually lived in Germany). He’d talked, through the Link, about his struggles with law school (Red is learning to be a defense attorney, just as he is a prosecutor, how cute!) and the Band, though he hadn’t gone into too much detail about how famous they’d gotten or the exact specifics, just in case. Red was fairly sharp and good at observing things, particularly when he wanted it least.
Even so, not even the most persistent of paparazzi knew better than his Linked what was in his heart. Red knew his personality and tastes better than the few honestly pitiful attempts Klavier makes at dating, knowing he’s a romantic and doing them a disservice.
Because what he keeps secret from all—well, perhaps not his Bruder, though Klavier had quickly learned not to mention the prospect at all—that he has a crush on his Linked. He wishes, one day, to stride into Red’s life and sweep him off his feet. Those daydreams did persist, though even blocking that away he knows not to indulge too deeply, lest he make a mistake somewhere and make too clear how he feels with no clue which form of love Red has for him in return.
Und when they finally meet, it’s overwhelming, Apollo Justice, the one that put his beloved Bruder behind bars, Apollo Justice, loud und just as dedicated to finding the truth as he’d known Red had been, Apollo Justice, short und adorable, mit a Hase’s little rabbit ears as part of his very professional haircut, Apollo Justice, mit Red’s sharp wit and yet kind demeanor. The romantic heart inside him hammers like Lu on drums, reminding him repeatedly of another famous Linked pair, complicated history and all, urges him to actually do the unthinkable und ask his boss Herr Edgeworth of his own past, how it had all come to be. If either he or—Herr Wright, Scheiße, he really should apologise, for while he still does not know the full truth Apollo Justice, his Linked, truly believes he had not known the full truth and there is every possibility he had wronged Herr Wright—had needed any persuasion, what had taken so long, how they could stand it, so near und yet so far.
No matter how he had chafed at the restrictions, longed to speak to his Verknüpftermensch in person, it is so much more impossible now. He hadn’t been ready, perhaps never would be, not mit Apollo Justice, fierce und beautiful, ach, more than anything he could ever write.
The trial. He should ready himself, put on the performance of his life, because he is determined he shall not make such a fool of himself again, even if by a little.

Klavier is a bit—okay, maybe a little more like a lot—of a romantic. He knows not all Linked Pairs actually end up in a relationship together, that many are platonic, und a few ended disastrously. He knows that they’re rare. Not like he’s one of, say, a thousand in a world, but enough that when they throw on a concert he might be one of only three or four, including the audience.
He knows that Kristoph und even his parents disapproved. Well, Stiefmutter. Thought, once it’d developed in adolescence, that he was too distracted, mit his head in the clouds (like that’s changed at all since childhood, even with the forming of a Link).
