Chapter Summary: They obtain the goth ashigaru.
Word Count: 380

Warning: mention of the canon eye trauma
Michael Czajak just shows up one day as a customer. It takes Xander a moment to recognize the goth as he’s greeting him, and then when he does his eye fills with tears as he continues to try to be professional. Michael requests Ayako-chan by name (presumably he’d heard of Choshi-chan and decided to come to Sanctuary to check out their resident goth girl). He becomes one of her regulars, and for the life of him Ria-chan can’t work out if the warlock has a crush or if he’s just having fun talking to another goth and trading makeup and clothing tips or something. However much Ria-chan is tempted, though, he’s not going to eavesdrop because other than protecting the staff that’s a rule and he’s a good girl. Sometimes. When he tries.
Michael doesn’t get involved in Sanctuary other than as a customer, but he does declare he wants to be an ashigaru. He doesn’t talk much unless death-related topics are mentioned (he knows a ridiculous amount about death-curses though he’d never cast one himself which helps save Ochi-chan’s life when she’s just being a Slayer and doing her job) or the topic is magic. He’s not much of a battle mage, unlike Annie-chan, since he’s a big believer in the Wiccan Rede and the Threefold Law. He has probably the best magic shields Xander’s seen, though, and is also the best magical healer other than the ones in England. He offers to heal the eye, and Xander stares at him dully for a while and then starts crying. Michael doesn’t offer again. (Xander doesn’t want it, necessarily, because as nice as 20/20 vision would be he likes the grounding ache and the reminder of why he needs to live and all that other shit. Also, he’s not always good at adapting to change, so there’s that.) Michael helps set up security and “camera” systems using magic.
It’s not really a surprise when Michael turns up with a tattoo of the Grim Reaper looming on his back (and a small version of the Headless Horseman galloping over his shoulder). He’d done it using the same spell as Willow apparently. It’s not as colorful as the rest of the tattoos, but it’s probably one of the more ominous. Ironic, really.
