The Use of Pride

Writing Ukitake again, and coughing again. There might be a correlation (though I didn't write this today, more last week). The good news is, the tests came back, and it's not Covid. It doesn't make me feel any less sick, but it's still a nice thing to hear.
I've been thinking about Ukitake's speech on pride since I saw that episode, and this is the explanation I came up with.

Main Points:
Bleach universe optional
Summary: Faster to read. Basically, the spoiler is, if you know who Kaien is/have seen Bleach Episode 49, you're fine/caught up. (You might be fine if you're interested in reading about Ukitake in the first place; I don't remember what was the first episode he showed up in. But I'm erring on the safe side.)
Word Count: 55
Rating: Gen
Pride might seem a small thing. An unnecessary thing, in the grand scheme. But Ukitake knows the weight of pride, that keeps one scrabbling after life long after others would have admitted defeat, and he knows Kaien. Like Juushirou, losing his pride would kill him, perhaps quickly, perhaps slowly, but he'd die all the same.
