Summary: Apollo delivers paperwork and an invitation to a party.
Specific Couple: Simon/Athena, Apollo/Klavier is briefly mentioned.

His first stop is Simon’s office.  He’s not quite certain how to act around Blackquill, but luckily the Prosecutor doesn’t seem quite certain how to act around him, either.

The man raises an eyebrow on seeing him panting.  He shoves the folder into the man’s hands to forestall any awkward conversation about how his bike’s in the repair shop, so he has to rely on the very unreliable bus and walking.  It’s not like he can’t drive.  After that fiasco with biking to Klavier’s place the once, and then having since started dating the man, he resolved that driving was a really useful skill to have.  He barely had the money, though, to go through the class, which means he can’t afford a car.  Edgeworth has one, but it’s in use by the man in question right now, and he’s not desperate enough to beg Gumshoe.

"This is the folder you were looking for.  Athena, by the way, really wants you to come to the party."  She wouldn’t go ahead and say that, of course.  For all her bluntness, occasionally, when she thought Apollo was on the wrong track, when it came to talking to the Twisted Samurai she just kind of lost all of that brutal honesty.  Not that most wouldn’t.  The guy is kind of intimidating, something that he never fails to use to his advantage in court.  It’s just that he’s pretty sure she’s reacting to the guy for different reasons than everyone else, and he’s not sure she’s even aware of that fact.

For the most part, he’d tell all the matchmakers to stay out of it.  Some, like Maya and even her cousin Pearls, can get way too into it, and be a little too creepy and intrusive.  In a couple cases, though, he’s taken it upon himself to relay messages.  He’ll mention things, subtle in their wide, blunt brushstrokes, and the person themselves can choose to follow up on it, or not, as they liked.  None of these overly complicated plans that might as well be Rube Goldberg machines.  Athena’s driving him up the wall with her zoning out during the middle of a case, and the sooner she acts on her crush or at least gets over it, the sooner the office goes back to...well, whatever semblance of normalcy Edgeworth & Wright Law Offices can muster.  The name’s not offical, and he grumbles about it a lot, seeing as he and Athena work there too.  Nobody’s gotten around to changing it yet, and at least no one seems to be taking Trucy’s wish to have it be the 'Anything Agency’ back into consideration.

And he’s gotten off topic again.  Great.

Fortunately, the prosecutor doesn’t seem to have noticed.  He’s been giving instructions to his hawk, who flies off into the snow, folder in beak.  He’s not really sure why the bird couldn’t have just picked it up...but then, as long as it took, he’d rather come all the way over to the Prosecutor’s Office to drop off a folder rather than have to deal with it.  He’s not sure whether it’s simply Blackquill’s instructions that made the hawk attack him so severely in every case, or whether the bird really had a grudge, but he’d rather not test his luck too much.

“Thank you, Justice-dono.”  That’s a bow.  Probably a deeper and longer bow than he’s seen.  It takes him a moment, but he realizes that Simon’s actually at a loss.  He’s been giving himself time to come up with a response.  Apollo should have guessed the prosecutor was socially awkward before, despite the rather easy way he can manipulate people and situations to his advantage.  When he’s not treating the world like a game of chess he has to win rather aggressively, he’s not entirely certain how to interact with it.

He’s seen some signs, working at the office, even though Edgeworth of this world is vastly superior and in some cases better than Phoenix.  Not that that’s hard, sometimes.

“She didn’t say this to me.”  Simon’s frowning, but refrains from fidgeting or any other un-samurai-like action.

At least he’s not practicing with his katana.  Especially not on me.

“She wouldn’t.”  Blackquill looks somewhat hurt, so Apollo explains.  “She probably asked, you told her you were working or something, she dropped it to not make you feel guilty or anything.  But seriously, it’s Christmas.  One day.  Things can wait.  Or if they can’t, let the Paynes suffer for once, rather than making others suffer.”

He suspects that may be the ghost of a smile.  It’s really kind of hard to tell.  And kind of disturbing.  He’d look away, but it kind of feels like he’ll lose some sort of contest if he does.

“As tempting as it is, Justice-dono, I feel that course of action may not be entirely in the spirit of the season.  And as the case of Edgeworth-dono has shown, Christmas is not a day void of criminal activity, however much we might wish it so.”  He hesitates, then it’s a real smile.  “Please relay my apologies, and this.”  He walks around his desk to pull out a single desk drawer and without hesitation retrieve some of its contents.  It’s a perfectly wrapped, with a pretty bow and everything, and Apollo has absolutely no difficulty imagining the perfectionistic prosecutor taking as long as he needed in order to make the present exactly the way he intended.

Apollo nods, disappointed, but carefully places it inside his backpack (sometime, he really needs to get a briefcase to look more official) and heads out into the morning sun.  It’s already taken that long already?  He sighs, pulls the coat further around himself, and trudges toward the bus stop.
