Heimdall:
There’s now 12 servers as follows (so 9 total servers closed which is a lot more than I thought they’d do, and the whole Japanese IP only server for 3 of the servers is a little…odd. I mean, given some of the complaints, to be expected, but still.) I’m going to miss Annwn, Mag Mell, and Olympus. And, haha, El Dorado even though no one took it seriously. Dorado was a fun place just to goof off.
Takamahiko Shrine —Japanese RP server, Japanese IP only
Yomi—Japanese PvP server, Japanese IP only (PvP includes Raiders/other groups)
Takamagahara Field—Japanese normal server (if you want to run into all types)
Ama no Iwato—Japanese RP server
Izumo—Japanese PvP server (PvP includes Raiders/other groups)
Avalon—European RP server, mainly English
Yggdrasil—European PvP server, mainly English
Dreamtime—Australian server
Atlantis—North American RP server
Mu—North American PvP server
Lemuria—North American normal server
Agartha—Worldwide server
Axis Mundi—Test Server (worldwide)
anonymous: So what’s the best server for someone just starting the game? —Ry
Heimdall:
A lot of that would depend on what country you’re playing from. RP means ‘roleplaying’. It means that you’ll be expected to be in character, and in other games sometimes you’ll get yelled at or looked down on if you’re not in character (i.e. playing your character as imagined, not mentioning the real world). PvP and raiders in other games can bother you all the time with requests for duels, complain about people not playing the game the way they do, about people not putting out content, and the like. Also yelled at and looked down on.
Please ignore me, I’ve got a little pent up anger from other games I play. This isn’t really a problem in ISO. We’re generally a really friendly lot, and the community is better than any other I’ve seen. We have PvPers and RPers getting along to the point some are best friends, and that’s something that almost never happens in my experience.
So a lot of it just has to do with your personal preference. Do you want to fight many player versus player battles, or join in large groups (12-24 characters, generally 12) to take down terrifying monsters? Do you put in a lot of thought into your characters, coming up with backstories and typing responses as they would?
Of course, as someone just starting the game, you may have absolutely no idea what the answers would be. Which is why I recommend normal servers so you can try things out and figure out what you enjoy.
So, normal server, in whatever language you want to play in. You are posting in Japanese, so I’d guess one of the Japanese servers. Also, if you want to interact with non-Japanese, don’t choose one of the Japanese IP only servers. Maybe Agartha, probably Takamagahara Field.
anonymous: Well, I’m sorry about that, but I’m glad this is a great game and that you’re having fun playing. Thanks for the help! –Ry
Koual: I didn’t play much in Annwn, but I liked the feeling of the server. And yeah, I’ll miss El Dorado. Just so much crack. Having a bad day, log into El Dorado, laugh your head off about stupid things, feel 150% better guaranteed.
Seimei: Actually, I’ll most miss Asgard, Jotunheim, Camelot, and the Elysian Fields. Though two test servers was a little silly. I notice that Japan didn’t lose any servers and that some of them went to Japan only IP. I mean, yeah, I get it, Japan can be exclusive sometimes, but sheesh, way to make us feel like we’re not wanted. I’m glad that Australia got to keep their ONE SERVER though. Go Aussies!
