I feel like, after watching Specter of the Gun and reading Mike Resnick's A Weird West Tale series, Mirror!Bones should be based on Doc Holliday.  The snark is strong.

5+1ish fic?  bones quickly finds out that the really odd kid he befriended comes with food.  lots of food.  and an
insistence he eat it.  it's a really weird quirk and at some point he gets mad about it, but there's a really good psych
reason for it.

you know what makes 900% more sense than the red matter creating black holes?  the red matter just distorts time.
it's like...concentrated tachyons or something.  what it did to Vulcan was it just rewound time to before the planet
existed, in that relative area.  any vulcans on the planet were deaged out of existence.  the thing with Romulus?  they
didn't know what was going on.  the red matter actually showed up around Romulus, and Spock's future ship was made both to contain and study it.  have Number One explain this to Kirk along with the issue--they don't know where it came from.  yes it was probably an attack on Romulus, but according to Ambassador Spock they don't actually know who would want to attack or why.  none of romulus's enemies or for that matter any race known to the Federation had that tech or reported the existence of red matter.  the space-time distortion creates an enormous gravity well.

that's weird I never even thought about that.  Sociologists actually kinda do have a prime directive.  They're supposed to act as a 'natural' part of the society (see: dressing like the natives, A Private Little War) and use the group's own way of thinking about things rather than judging them by the standards of the society they come from.  This has the added side effect of trying to make as little impact as possible, and if you're viewing things their way in most cases you'd go 'oh, there shouldn't be a change'.
(admittedly I only took one class on this so my memory might be off/understanding might be skewed, but we also had to do ethnographies for class so)
(in some cases it's actually even sort of secret. on one hand you want to give people the knowledge of who you are as an IRB thing.  on the other hand if you're not directly referring to them and trying not to make ripples in order to
get the most accurate results possible...Star Trek, Voyages of the Space Ethnographers)
I'm not sure whether that's fallen out of favor or anything, but it was huge for a while.

some of my favorite things are when people are swearing without swearing.  Kirk with his "go climb a tree" and yes, even Dante's "flock off featherface" are amazing.  You can make it sound just as insulting, just as dirty, with enunciation, and it's an awesome feat.  Runners-up are Detective Manners with his "bleepin' dead alien body" and...
well, I vaguely remember Obi-Wan having SOMETHING I used for a while (stars?  something) but that was in Episode 2, which it's been forever since I watched.

See, this is why you listen to Bones.  He gets to be awesome (though doesn't get through it unscathed) and on the other side Jim's wearing a hole in the Enterprise corridors freaking out.  (Mostly concentrates on Bones, though.)  There's good science and action and every part of the story is purposeful.  Basically, if you want good Episodefic, this is it.

With all due respect to George Takei, there's absolutely no reason why Beyond would mean that his character would have had to be closeted.  It's bi-erasure in the fact that the idea doesn't even occur.  Also (and it's highly probable that they'd understand this better in the future) one relationship does not a sexuality make!  I would think in the world of Star Trek in the future, with attraction to aliens as a viable option, people would get that yeah, okay, maybe you have specific types, or are just open to whatever relationships come your way, or are in it for the personality, rather than assuming or throwing labels around. I feel representation is best done when it's just treated as normal, not worth commenting on or pointed out, and it was done brilliantly in the movie, where Jim's just happy for his subordinate and not being the stereotypical Straight Guy or even really being shocked.  We shouldn't judge people
for who they like, and it's interesting and kinda sad that Takei's mind immediately went 'it makes my character
closeted' rather than 'oh, it adds another dimension to my character; he was actually bisexual or mostly straight'.
It's probably because it hits close to home and therefore he's reacting emotionally rather than intellectually.

Parody: the Fact Sphere is Spock, the Space Sphere is Kirk (although, seriously, try not to cry at "Dad, I'm in space"
"I'm proud of you, son" "Dad, are you space?" "Yes, now we are a family again.") also "I'm the best at space"
(actually parody: they don't say this stuff, that's just what they think about) bones is clearly not the adventure sphere, but there's a paranoid sphere that's mentioned sooo

Kirk loves food.  He loves trying new things, although he doesn't always end up liking them right away.  If there's
not enough food to share or if he ends up getting more than anyone else he sneaks some onto someone else's plate because it freaks him out.  (this might make a good TOS fic actually)

Ø  http://caitri.livejournal.com/389346.html

Ø  Star Trek (’09)/Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Ø  Bones/Jim

Ø  Warnings: Sex does occur in this fic.  Maybe violence?  (I mean, it's Buffy, there is violence, I'm just not sure if it needs a warning or not.)

Everything is bright and shiny and happy (you know, other than when it’s angsty), but it’s just so much fun.  I just kind of bounced the entire time I read this.  Vampire!Jim is amazing, as is Vampire Slayer!Uhura.  There are tons of references, and it stays true to the spirit of both original franchises while definitely being the ’09 characters.
