Crystaahhl describing her dream of finding Edgeworth dead in his office and I’m just like...it’ll turn out fine but maaaaan is she not ready for Justice for All, aaaaa.
I was in the mood so I went back and watched a few House Flipper let’s plays, and, uh. It’s not the same. The game is exactly as I remember, but maaaaaan the classism and sometimes the sexism is not even hidden, but it’s on full display. Stains are gross and even a bit leads to calling things a “pigsty”, which is messed up in its own right (as that could easily lead to racism too, particularly with how many minorities make up lower classes). There was one house where the parent got a divorce and disowned her kids and the guy was going on about how sorry he felt for her for losing her kids (?!?) right up until the point he found an unmade bed and then went ‘you know, she was probably a horrible mother’. I actually like the trend since the pandemic where people realized we don’t have to pretend we’re all perfect robots. No shade on you if you personally like things to be neat and tidy; we all have different preferences. But it’s good that we’ve stopped shoving women in boxes quite as hard, because I’ve seen my mom’s anxiety spike every time we have someone over and she doesn’t have time to vacuum for the fifteenth time and move a few things that show the house is lived in out of the way, and it’s not intrinsic; she thinks she’s an absolute failure of a woman and wife if she doesn’t. It seems a lot like a way to keep women busy and “in their place”, even if they work or do other things with their time, and it sucks.
And of course I didn’t notice any of this stuff when I was a kid. Well. Not that I was a kid. That was 10 years ago, which is a long time, but still.
While We Wait Here: Hang on a minute, that’s either one of the VAs from VtM Bloodlines or she is doing an exact perfect imitation of her and either way it is fantastic.
so the ninja sidequest is kinda cringe, but--I find it absolutely fascinating that Yagami just looks at sex appeal and goes 'huh?' so while i'm not sure he's fully ace, he very definitely might be on the ace spectrum
i thought yagami was being a smart aleck handing his business card wrong to people he doesn't like
but i was wrong
he does that to everybody
Edit: Oh yeah, also this is a call for advice. I hadn't bothered naming the Xander/Leon series because I didn't expect it to go this long but I've got posts scheduled for a while, so. Clearly there's a lot to this one. I've never had this much trouble naming a series before. Any readers want to chip in with suggestions?
this is gonna be the yakuza 4 which is all the sadder because this might be the last judgment game we get, huh?
also yagami's instinct that kaito can't be trusted to just visit a club and not be a creep is correct, which...why. I know why but it...look, i wanna love kaito, you're making it hard, rgg. (tbf some of yagami's side stories in the first one were also problematic so. sigh)
also the first words out of my mouth were 'okay did he just get demoted to twisted trio what's his codename'. terrible dark humor and I don't recommend it.
waaaait was Shinji saying he should go on a soapland crawl...was that when he met his girl??
actually, the 'murder during collections' thing is probably a rumor that's been going around since yakuza 0.
the whole "Yakuza for you is a way to die. For me, it's a way to live" is interesting considering how much in despair Kiryu is the whole game and the ending of the game. I wonder how it ties into 6.
