The butler-man stands and waits for them all to get out of the cars before he addresses them. He doesn’t make a single move to help such as opening the doors, but then, even if he looks like a butler, he’s probably not actually one. And, to be fair, it doesn’t look like they have a car-parking service anyway.
“Welcome, valued guests, representatives of the International Slayers’ and Watchers’ Council and the Speedwagon Foundation. We have been expecting you. The name, should you care to have it, of this humble personage is Garmr.” There’s something a little off, not quite right, about his voice. The deep bow in apology and the tone and everything is perfect—maybe a little too perfect. Sure, he’s practiced an apology in front of the mirror. Who hasn’t? But this feels like a robot’s attempting to mimic emotions, like it can perfectly mimic an apology and will never, ever understand why, only what’s expected. He’d say maybe an alien, but he’s met an alien, maybe, and even Mikitaka is more normal than this guy. And given that they’d been described as employing a lot of demons…
You can probably still punch him if given the okay, and it feels like he’d do the same thing right back, Josuke reminds himself. Like, he seems perfectly polite and apologetic and all that, but there’s a menacing air about him that says he’d absolutely rip all their throats out if told he could. He’s not bothering to slip into the background or anything. And another thing about the way he’s approaching this: they definitely don’t seem panicked, but they’re probably trying to seem all tough and don’t want to admit they’re in a bind.
“Do we have an oath of hospitality?” Giles-san asks, clearly and confidently. In fact, that’s the most confident he’s been in anything yet, but then, this is probably his area of expertise.
“Of course, sworn and notarized.” From somewhere, Garmr-san pulls out a scroll. Which looks like it’s written in blood. By hand. It takes everything Josuke has not to pull a face. It’s too bad Josie isn’t here. His daughter would be having a blast with this.
Giorno steps forward to stand alongside Giles-san, which...yeah, of course he would, the nerd, he actually finds things like contracts and fine print fun, and he’s probably really interested in learning how all of this works. Especially if he’s been having to deal with these jerks for a while now. His eyes scan the scroll quickly and carefully, and given his occupation (which Josuke will never quite...get, exactly, but they’ve learned not to discuss it in detail) it’s either some pretty good luck or something his cousin learned to cultivate, but his ‘taking interest’ mannerisms look exactly the same as his ‘learning’ mannerisms. If he has absolutely no idea what he’s looking for and is attempting to pick that up, no one would ever know.
“Everything appears in order,” Giorno announces, probably from careful observation of Giles-san’s body language, which says he’s satisfied with the arrangements.
“Before I can lead you to your appointment, it would be greatly appreciated if all of you sign the document as well. A ceasefire means very little if it cannot be agreed to by all parties.” Josuke’s really not sure about that part, but Giles takes the pen-knife without hesitation, pricking his finger and beginning work on signing his name. Giorno is quick to follow. It sounds like he’s not the only one with reservations, either—he hears snippets of hushed whispers as Yukako voicing her own concerns, and Koichi reassuring her that he really doesn’t want to wait in the car like a dog and that given how it’s probably really carefully worded they don’t even necessarily know if the reassurance would include the cars. Maybe notably, Garmr-san doesn’t say anything on the subject either way, instead watching each signature with keen interest.
Yukako being Yukako, though, she doesn’t let the man get away with saying nothing. The way she brandishes the penknife when it’s handed to her, staring directly and unblinkingly into the man’s eyes, makes Josuke a little nervous that she’s decided stabbing the guy is a better idea, after all. “If anything happens to Koichi because of this, I am hunting you down and pulling your head off with my hair,” she declares, and, yikes, that’s an image that Josuke really didn’t need. He’s pretty sure she’d do her best trying to pull that off, too.
Garmr-san is unfazed. “As would be your right.”
She nods decisively and hands the already stained penknife to Koichi gently, letting him grip her hand tightly as he winces at the pain and begins writing his name, and oof there’s another worry that Josuke didn’t need, the fact that this is all really unsanitary. Who knows what that thing’s been used for previously, or what diseases anyone might have had?
Horse-san eyes the rest of them, shrugs, and follows suit. Given what little interaction they’ve had, he probably came to the conclusion that it was safer of him to stick with them, even if his well-tuned survival instincts are probably telling him this is a terrible idea and he shouldn’t follow through with it.
Brown-san and von Stroheim-san sign quietly, though from their own quiet discussion it looks like they’ve at least planned for a loophole in case of an emergency. Given that these are lawyers, even if they’re demon lawyers, they’ve probably plugged all those up, but maybe he’s wrong.
“I’m not leaving the sword out here,” Summers-san states with the same amount of defiance.
The incline of the head is probably supposed to be another bow, if a smaller one. “Nor would anyone take it from you. I am told some car break-ins have occurred recently, so I would not recommend you leave anything you would be unhappy to part with. Of course, if we knew the perpetrators, we would have sued them to hell and back, but as of yet, we have not found any useful clues.” The smile is more a baring of fangs than a flash of teeth. “In any case, we will not confiscate any weapons from you, as long as you’ve signed.”
Rosenberg-chan reads it over carefully, seemingly mouthing some of the words in the scroll, even if she’s careful not to actually read any of it out loud, before signing hers with a flourish. She acts like this is all completely normal. Maybe that’s just how it is if you’re a witch?
Jotaro-san does, seemingly without a care in the world or a change in the glare, even though he’s probably as reluctant as Josuke is. It’s remarkable how similar Kakyoin-san is, even if he’s a little more...pleasant as he does so, chatting casually with the pseudo-butler as if trying to get some sort of unintended admission or other verbal vulnerability. Garmr-san looks amused, so it’s probably not working, but it’s worth the try.
It’s finally Josuke’s turn, and he really doesn’t want to do this, but he has to suck it up.
Garmr-san rolls the scroll back up with a flourish (hang on, isn’t that going to smear the blood…?) and bows again. “Now, if you will follow me...”
