Two People
Angel gets to be Anjeru-san. The age difference probably doesn't bother him too much, given Japan.
It's not that Kindaichi doesn't get jealous--he does, just only over Miyuki. (Maybe Reika, too, though I haven't seen any evidence of that yet.) But despite being a perv, there's a respect for women and women's choices that is really kinda cool (and Xander needs more of that).
Main Points:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/The Case Files of Young Kindaichi
Summary: Angel's a little confused.
Word Count: 1116

miyuki continues to not appear in person
SPOILERS: brief spoilers for an event if not the perp in the vampire episode of Case Files.
He’d happily donate blood. And she’d be most upset that she couldn’t attend school, probably. Maybe that would be an even better excuse for her to do his homework, if she couldn’t do her own anymore.
This Anjeru-san actually seems a little nervous meeting him, which is just a little strange. If anything, it should be the other way around. The older man is the one with supernatural powers, after all. Hajime, on the other hand, is just happy to meet someone who speaks Japanese. He suspects he might do better on his next English test.
“So, you’ve got a crush on Bufi-sama, Anjeru-san?” he asks casually in Japanese and watches the man choke on nothing at all. Maybe it’s a little mean, but a little prank might put him a little more at ease. It’s possible he’s even the boyfriend Wilo-chan mentioned, but he can’t say for sure given that Bufi-sama wouldn’t even be aware of it at the moment.
“I—aren’t you angry?” Angry? But why would he—
Oh. “I don’t even know her.” Sure, she’s pretty, and she definitely looks good in that dress, but she’s a complete stranger he probably will never see again, once they finish this case. More than that, Wilo-chan’s reactions to her say that she’s a stranger even to herself, so that’s not even her own personality. And from his experience women are very capable of making their own decisions. Sometimes, those are bad decisions, like murder, but then, he’ll admit to himself if not out loud that he doesn’t always make the best decisions, either. Not murder, in his case, but still. That’s not quite everything; his instincts are telling him that Anjeru-san isn’t far off the mark, but that’s something for Zandaru to worry about.
“You’re really…not Xander.” The older man is staring at him as if he’s a puzzle.
What, had he not believed Wilo-chan? That’s rude. Out loud, all he says, mildly, is “I think Wilo-chan already mentioned that?”
The man shifts under his gaze (he really is anxious; Hajime doesn’t know whether to be even more worried about Zandaru) and blurts out an explanation. “With Buffy, or any of the characters out there,” he waves vaguely toward the outside, “…it’s easy to tell. With you…not so much.”
“I see.” Hmm. Well, if it’s simply because of behavior, together with Wilo-chan he’s already discovered the solution to that particular mystery. There could be more. Zandaru-kun also being a slacker seems correct, for one. But there are more important things to talk about. He’s curious, of course, and has experience that says practically anything can turn out to be a clue, but they really need to solve this case.
“What do you think is causing all this?” he asks, earning another startled look.
Anjeru-san thinks, and then answers, “…Spell or wish demon, probably.”
Hajime leans against the center island, putting a hand on his chin to think. “I’ve already worked out that the culprit either wanted this, specifically, or it’s a diversion from their real aim.” Normally, he doesn’t narrate this much of his thinking process out loud, but he’s also not usually at this much of a disadvantage. He doesn’t have a hope of narrowing it down on his own, when he doesn’t even know ‘wish demons’ exist. He’d like to see Superintendent Akechi try to solve this. “Is there a possibility that the culprit doesn’t actually mean harm?”
The vampire appears confused, so he elaborates. Within reason—if Zandaru isn’t fond of the man, he’s not about to blab secrets. Wilo-chan is more likely to know who he would be comfortable, or at least minimally uncomfortable, with knowing, in any case. “Wilo-chan said something about ‘going as you aren’t’, and she thinks Bufi-sama and Zandaru-kun had good reasons for wanting to be someone else. Is it possible the culprit just wanted to give everyone a break from their everyday lives for one night?”
“It’s possible, but…” He sighs. “In my experience, it’s never benign in Sunnydale.”
Hajime smiles encouragingly at the man. “I guessed it was too much to hope for, but never mind that. If it is, it’d probably just resolve on its own. In the name of my grandfather, we can solve this!”
Anjeru-san doesn’t exactly appear reassured, unfortunately. Oh well. He’ll see.
“So if it’s a distraction, it’s probably too much to hope that you know anyone in town capable of spells like this?” he asks hopefully. He’s not too surprised (or discouraged) when the answer turns out to be a shake of the head, though. “In that case, what would they be after?”
“Hajime-chan, would you mind continuing in English?” Wilo-chan suggests as she walks into the kitchen. “Buffy’s lying down in her room. I made sure the window was locked—not that it’ll stop some of that…” she waves a hand toward the outside, “…but still.”
“Is she all right?” Anjeru-san asks anxiously.
“Yeah,” she responds, but she’s dismissive. “I think I’ve figured out some more, Hajime-chan. Buffy’s tired of being the person who always fixes the problems. So I think she could take charge and give orders in this situation, adapt like you are, but she doesn’t want to. Which is why she keeps avoiding us—if she lets ‘the servants’ take care of it…”
He nods. Everyone needs a break now and then, and if she spends her life fighting evil, of course she’d want to relax now and then.
“Anjeru-san, do you know anything else that could be helpful—” he begins, trying to find anything else he can before he suggests the man keep his crush company if not, waiting on her as would befit a princess, when there’s another scream outside.
He exchanges a glance with the other two, and then they’re out the door.

Hajime meets his first real vampire with a sandwich in his mouth. That’s not altogether surprising, considering he likes to eat when he can, and this Zandaru might be similar, although for different reasons. It’s a little awkward. He can’t help but think back to the case where the culprit had been trying to convince everyone that a vampire had done it. Irrational as it had been, he had thought for a second when he found her that Miyuki had been turned—that was before realizing she was in a towel, which was a little cool but mostly scary because, well, she’d been attacked in the bathroom, and he’d read about the psychological explanations of vampires. He wasn’t about to let anyone hurt her, even to protect themselves, though. Because Miyuki wasn’t a bad person, and that wouldn’t change, even if, against all common sense, vampires actually existed.
He’d happily donate blood. And she’d be most upset that she couldn’t attend school, probably. Maybe that would be an even better excuse for her to do his homework, if she couldn’t do her own anymore.
