From a dream about cowboy bebop

previously written but I'm late posting anyway

Main Points:
Judgment|Judge Eyes/Cowboy Bebop
Chapter Summary: Yagami's going to stop at nothing to unearth the truth (aka typical Yagami things).

Word Count: 440
Rating: Teen (innuendo, darker topics)
kaito yet again doesn't appear even when he's talked about prominently; Tak being trans actually is plot-relevant this time
Warning: mention of dysphoria, brief mention of violence to an offscreen character; prioritize self-care!

“You’re wearing a wig.”  Saori glances at the dress Yagami-san has hanging in the small dressing room.  He ignores her concern, as usual.
“Nah, all I gotta do is style my hair.  Don’t need a wig for this.”  From the way his hands work, swift and sure, it’s clear he’s used a straightening iron before.  The thought of ‘cross-dressing’ would usually leave him in a cold sweat.  Kaito-san usually lectured a bit about that, about how it didn’t make one less of a man, completely oblivious as to the why (specifically, the dysphoria that would leave Yagami-san in a bad mood all day), but while he’s usually an intense guy, she’s never seen the man quite so driven.
“You know you’ve got Kaito-san really worried?  More than usual, I mean.”  Yagami-san says nothing to that, so she presses on.  “He’s practically declaring himself your bodyguard, and while ‘overenthusiastic admirer’ actually plays into your cover, I’m afraid you aren’t good for his blood pressure.”
Yagami-san stops meeting her eyes entirely.  From that, Saori deduces that he’s embarrassed.
“He really is in love with you, you know.  So he can play his part perfectly,” she continues, more softly, and Yagami-san groans and ducks his head.  Because his hands are still occupied and he doesn’t want to inflict burns.  He’s always been smart, at least.
“I know,” he admits, voice small.  “I’ve been trying to discourage him.  I’m not safe.”
“Kaito-san doesn’t expect any of us to live forever, even if he thinks carpe diem is spelled ‘even the carp will die’.  He gets complex motivations like revenge.”  Maybe she’s a bit relentless, but years of being a lawyer have drilled that into her.
Yagami-san’s hands falter for only a moment.  “So that makes it okay to hurt him?”  He’s actually slightly incredulous.
“You already are, Yagami-san.  The question is how you want to hurt him.”  She pauses, a possible thought drifting through her head.  “And if it’s in the bedroom, I neither need nor want to know.”
“Saori!” Yagami-san protests, sounding just as scandalized as her brain.
“Just stating the truth and nothing but the truth.”  That, at least, gets him to smile.  He might not have studied, but he’d had a natural mind for law and caught on quick once they actually started talking and stopped just sniping at each other.  “In the meantime, you could try being a little less reckless.  For Kaito-san’s sake, if not for your own.”
He sighs, deep and troubled.  “I—I’ll think about it.  But these lowlifes need to pay.”  What with drowning a kid and dismembering the body…she can’t really argue with that one.
