"What don't you get?" Yosuke asked, gritting his teeth. "I told you to never call me Lord."
"...Bu-but, you're our elected Lord..."
His fist lashed out, hitting the wall. "I am merely stepping in the place, filling in. Souji..."
"You must be realistic. Souji will never ret-"
In a second, Yosuke was holding the man by his shirt collar, fist bunched and forcing him upwards in a colossal effort. "Don't you dare say that!" he spat. "You should know better, since Kanji nearly tore your head off last time. You might have lost all faith, but I believe Lord Souji will return. Disbelieve all you want, but don't you dare go around saying it, and especially not to the Investigation Team. Not if you're at all intelligent."
Yosuke knows they're time travelers and that the Doctor probably isn't human-thanks to Jiraiya. Also, with the time stranded thing going on, the only way they *could* have gotten here was time travel.
Amy tells him that she knows Souji will return, and when asked why explains about how she waited. Souji, obviously, was a hero, so he'd return too.
Rise and Junpei were thrown in the 'brig' for going crazy and trying to kill everyone. Junpei couldn't take orders. Rise blamed everyone else for Souji's departure.
The Doctor points out that Evokers are illegal and thinks their enemies can still be reasoned with. "If you think you can do better, find a peaceful solution, fine! Because I'm sick of the war, and I'm sick of everyone I cared about biting the dust!" Yosuke's on the edge-he misses Souji, his mp3 and headphones stopped working long ago...
So Yosuke, along with one of SEES and Kanji as a bodyguard, leaves the compound and descends into the caves, where Izanami awaits...
"He betrayed you, just as he betrayed me. You gave him your heart and he abandoned you."
Kanji, meanwhile, is staring in shock. "Senpai?" he asks. He's beginning to get it-Yosuke loved Souji. More than that, they'd had a relationship, but didn't tell anyone about it.
"It was to protect me. Souji's our leader, our best shot. A big target. If Kubo, Adachi, even you had known, his enemies would have used me against him."
She laughed, loud and terrifying. "You really believed that?"
Rise had been coming to visit Izanami. "I knew about it, but...I couldn't blame her. Not when she was so desperate, not when she was only doing what I'd wanted to do for so long. She'd do anything to get her back, but I...I will not betray his memory to get him back."
Other Stuff: Kanji/Naoto, Akihiko/Mitsuru, Minato as a messenger?
A man appeared, sword in hand. He looked like a teenager, but he had a helmet of grey hair that, in this light, glowed like a halo. The grey glasses on his face also seemed to glow, unworldly. "Stop this, Adachi."
A sneer met him, and in a second Yosuke's neck was between his enemy's hands. Yosuke's eyes went wide, beautiful behind the orange glasses. He'd missed him so much.
Then the man twisted, and he shrieked.
Yosuke looked surprised most of all, but also so very grateful. Like he'd just seen the Second Coming or something.
In slow motion, the body slid downwards, eyes closing for the last time. It looked graceful, like Yosuke Hanamura never was. It looked peaceful, which was a lie, an illusion.
The monster gave an extra kick to the back of the head, crushing the glasses, and Souji screamed.
"Yosuke!" He ran as he had never run before, and the monster saw something in his eyes and ran too. His time would come later.
He ran to the body and cradled it, vision becoming blurry. At first, he'd thought his glasses had slipped off and he was seeing Yosuke through the fog, but then realized that he was crying, tears dripping down his face, and he hadn't even noticed for a while because he was numb. Who knew how long it had been? Time didn't seem to work right. Nothing did, not with the limp body cradled in his lap. This was never supposed to happen. "Yosuke, please, partner, I'm back. I promised. I came back. You can't leave, not..." He had to breathe, somehow, but the words were choking him like poison. He couldn't...
Gentle hands finally pried the body, which didn't move no matter how much he begged it to, away from him, and Yukiko's face swam into view. She shook her head sadly.
An anger coursed through him, strong and elemental as the raging of storms. He shuddered, a change burning through him, and suddenly he and Izanagi were one. They would avenge their mate.
Rory watched, wide-eyed, as a large man in armor with a sword appeared over the newcomer, appearing partially seethrough at times, just so he could see the young man underneath. The two, with burning eyes, turned to face Izanami. "You have gone too far, wife, just as you always have. I abandoned you, once, and have been trying to atone for my mistake, but you...you preferred to let the fires of your grudge burn brightly." The voice boomed through the room, and he shuddered. It was probably the best idea to avoid making people like these mad.
They become time-sensitive due to their extended stay in the Time Field, and they probably will evolve to a time-sensitive race, even possibly like the Time Lords, someday.
"We're out, but...there's been too much death," one of the Evoker users told the time-travelers, adjusting his black, weather-worn gloves.
Souji didn't bother to respond to that, staring into the fire as if it had held secrets to life and death. No one blamed him, all having lost far too much throughout their lives.
Then black humanoid shapes appeared on the edge of the encampment, and the man dropped his red jacket, pointing the Evoker at his forehead.
Then the shapes resolved into...Yosuke, and a lot of other people they didn't recognize. Rory snuck a glance at the Doctor, who was beaming.
Souji, wordless, ran to Yosuke, who caught him and hugged him close.
"Funny thing, Time Fields. Once it's broken, things can, erm. Reset. At least a little. It's not like pushing the 'rewind' button on a VCR, not that anyone would get that reference because it's a little too old, because it doesn't go right back to the very beginning. It's a different beginning that just happens to resemble the other beginning."
Souji turned, smiling, tired but happy. "Thank you, Doctor."
