Conflict of Interest

Main Points:
Buffy/Devil May Cry/Resident Evil/Background NCIS Crossover

xander doesn't appear but is the main topic of discussion

“So, do I have to fill out a relationship form or something?” Leon finds it funny, the way she starts, but he hadn’t intentionally tried to surprise her; he wants this to work and if Hunnigan decides she’s against this it’ll suddenly become a lot harder.
Hunnigan swears, hurriedly turning to face him. “Leon, don’t you knock?”
He smiles winningly, and she drops the complaint with a scowl.
“Only if it’s a situation where it’s likely to interfere with your duties. Please tell me it’s not Wong.” It’s touching she cares, even if she tries very hard not to make that obvious.
“It’s not. You’d like him; he’d try adorably hard to get on your good side once he realizes your opinion matters to me.” Breaking their unwritten rules, he knows, but if he continues on like nothing happened she’ll follow suit. “More to the point, yes, it could, but I’ve never had a serious relationship while I’ve been working here so I don’t know the paperwork involved. Specifically, he and his agency are planning on working closer with us soon, and while I’d love to be the contact to help the transition, I’m not sure he sees the conflict of interest there, and I don’t think the possibility of de-legitimizing our hard work is a good idea.”
She does her best to hide her surprise, but Leon spots it anyway.
“When did you become a mature adult?” she snarks, and—
Well, that’s a relief. Not that he’d thought she’d be biphobic, but it had been a possibility.
“Must be my sweetheart making an honest man of me.” He’s only half-joking, and given the odd look she gives him that must have come across, which might be the only reason she accepts the explanation. “Alexander Redgrave.”
“You’re serious.” She stares only long enough to confirm it’s true, then sighs. “Of course, you’re serious. You’ve always enjoyed flirting with fire. Is this why you were so upset about that briefing?”
“We weren’t dating at the time, but yeah. You remember the day you told me to go meet someone?” He just keeps surprising her today, it seems, because she’s too shocked to reply. “We became friends, but I didn’t know he worked for another agency and was blindsided in the field. Obviously, we worked our way past that one.”
She winces and looks a little guilty, but quickly hides that under her professional attitude. “Are you happy?” she asks, like it doesn’t matter to her.
He smiles, genuine and pure. “Yep.”
“Then I can find and process most of the paperwork you need.” She looks back to her screen. “Do you have a recommended liaison instead?”
He only briefly considers. “Landon kept a pretty clear head.”
She nods, and it’s a dismissal, but he feels a lot better about practically everything now that this is settled.
