Tatsuya has no right to burst onto the scene and upend everything Katsuya has ever believed in.  (Part of him whispers that he’s always been good at that.  Like a cat purposefully breaking vases.  Part of him whispers that his little brother has always been like a cat, but it’s the other way around, isn’t it, he likes cats because they remind him of Tatsu-chan, only if he finds the exact right food, then maybe his little brother won’t keep sneaking off, maybe someday if he provides just enough he’ll stay—)
It’s strange, because he’d thought his Persona could use fire, but then Tatsuya’s Persona could burn everything to the ground, a searing heat that even he can’t muster, and yet—he doesn’t.
It’s obvious in every word, in the look in his eyes.  His little brother is hurting and he wants to tell Tatsu-chan that he should just let Katsu-chan handle it; it’s his job, not as a police officer but as a brother—but he’d never listen.  Persuasion doesn’t work, so he’d tried ordering him instead, and that’s when he lost him, he’s fairly sure.
There’s an edge to him now.  Like Masamune’s blade, a focus and confidence and assurance sharp and cutting, and yet kind, not leaving even one mark on the innocent.
He finds himself worrying—well, more than usual; he always worries about Tatsuya, because, again, that’s his job.  But as bright as he shines, is he sleeping, or does he only flare that hot because he’s using himself as kindling?  If he slows down a little, will he just burn out?  That burden, that pain he’s carrying feels like the fate of the world, and Katsuya doesn’t even know what he’s been through, but it hurts.  He wants to help shoulder the stress, but isn’t sure if he could even handle it.
Does that make Tatsuya the strong one?  He always was, the voice confirms, though he ignores that.  If Tatsuya’s focus wasn’t so strong, would he have lost himself already?  Is leaving the pain and duty unsheathed the only thing keeping the darkness at bay, keeping Tatsuya from going mad in the empty void that follows?
Katsuya swallows.  Maybe he should bake again.  Surely that can’t hurt.
He’s not sure if the knowing smile, slight nod, and sight of Tatsuya stuffing his face to avoid conversation make him feel better or worse.
