Duty (abandoned chapter)

Main Points:
Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha
Summary: Narumi tries to act to fix everything.  (This is...even more angst.)
Word Count: 312
Rating: Teen, ANGST, abandoned route because this direction is just too far even for me and this fic series.  (also this is law route, because honestly given Raidou's personality, what we see with it, it's one of the few SMT games where I'm not sure Chaos Route makes any sense.  neutral, maaaaybe.)
Warnings: Alcohol abuse

Narumi gets drunk.  He’d had to, to face Raidou again.  They’d both been avoiding each other, and it was a shock how much he’d missed the kid.  But this time, he felt ready.
When he wanders in, bottle in hand, the student glances up from his homework and looks alarmed.  He’s not even sure what he says, really.  His thoughts come out in some weird kind of slur.
The slam jolted Shouhei to his senses, and he stared, a little stupidly, at the wall.  Raidou had torn the bottle from his hand and hurled it at the wall, remaining alcohol and all.  The shards and liquid slid down the surface, slowly trailing and tracing patterns.  Even Raidou looked a little uncertain, but the fiery anger had yet to extinguish itself.  “How dare you?”
Narumi blinked.  The world wasn’t making much sense at the moment, but he did have a few, somewhat coherent thoughts.
Why’s he so mad?  I’m giving him what he wants, after all.  And I’ve decided I want it, or at least I wouldn’t be adverse to the idea, so I don’t get why he did that.
He, of course, failed to consider the way someone else, namely Raidou, would understand his actions.  To Raidou, it was cheap, a way to poke fun, to humiliate, to hurt.  Drunk, yes, but that was no excuse for cruelty.
He tries again, though.  He has to.  He might be a bit yellow-bellied, but he was in the army.  “Raidou, I’ve missed you being around.  I’ve no clue what goes through that bright young head of yours, why you’d be interested in a washed-up old lug like me.  No dame is, not really, and never mind what I usually say, I can’t blame ‘em.  You’d be better off with someone else—Tae, maybe, even Nagi, but I never pretended I was anything but selfish.”
