The next couple seconds seemed to slow down, but his reactions hadn’t sped up at all. Blondie reached down to swipe another fallen demon’s sword and sent a clumsy stab in his direction. It’d been meant as a probing hit, just a warm up so that the two could begin to understand each other’s styles for a real fight. Dante once again became completely aware that this wasn’t his own body, because he could feel something inside that wasn’t himself freeze up and panic, and the body’s reaction time didn’t meet the half-devil’s standards.
Suddenly he felt a screaming pain in the abdomen, coughed quietly and tasted something metallic that made the demon squirm, but looked up, blinking. Blondie looked just about as confused as he was about the whole situation, and for a moment, it looked like he was even going to apologize.
There’s screams in the background. Red and Cat Lady, from what he can tell.
Then time sped up again, and the demon roared in his mind, deafening, and then his body was out of control. The fire spread from where the sword was still lodged throughout his body, quickly burning through him, and then he literally began shaking, feeling his jaws clench in an attempt to keep the demon inside as a growl utterly inhuman began to work through his system. His head snapped back as the world around him faded to his body and the fire and the need to hurt, to fight, to spill blood
He couldn’t hold it in. The growl turned to a roar as he threw back his head, allowing the change. It had become a raging flood, and he had to skim on top, surfing the wave, barely in control. Wings burst from his back, made of smoke and fire, and beat once in ecstatic agony. The throes of change had nearly ripped the sword from Blondie’s hands, as slight hands trembled and screamed and formed into claws, as his feet did the same. A tail grows at his back, whipping back and forth, ready for a fight. His head snapped back up, eyes glowing a dangerous red, fangs bared in a snarl of a smile. Blondie had let go of the sword, watching in open-mouthed awe.
“Ah, babe, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” he rumbled, reaching down with one hand huh, apparently my hands are empty because that hurt so much I dropped everything to pull out the blood-drenched sword with a slight spurt of blood. Hasn’t been a major adventure until something tries to impale me, he mused, grinning. The wound was already beginning to heal. Well, it looks like he can Devil Trigger without killing the poor kid’s body. The idiot, meanwhile, was still staring, looking a little traumatized, actually. Oh, poor wittle wampire. Did I break his brain? If he had one in the first place, that is. “Well, come on! Give me a challenge, I don’t want to wait all day!” It took the vampire a few seconds, but then a grin grew across that face to match his own, and in a few strides he’d crossed to pick up yet another sword, tossing it from hand to hand. Showing off, probably.
“You won’t die an old maid,” he promised, and in a second their swords were crossed. It’s a little weird not to hear ‘old man’, not gonna lie. I mean, Lady only occasionally does that when she’s trying to tick me off, but…but there’s more important things like the fact I’m enjoying a swordfight which is the first time since…in a long while.
