idle thought #660
I believe in my powers. I believe in the powers of my teammates. I’m also Mashita and believe this is a whole lot of bullshit except when it’s not.

AAAAAAA Mashita saying “I’m not your priest” and then offering a bit of comfort, actually picking up on the fact that he’s having a vision, and then going “handy” and validating his powers when even Yashiki isn’t believing in himself or his powers—
….and it was only Mashita that actually got him to properly consider suspects.
yeah he is so much softer just to yashiki in this one. This is so wild. (you know, within the bounds of tsundere. But he’s more dere than tsun.)
..Mashita actually backed you up on getting Shou out. And then made sure to butt in himself. ...I. can’t.
Yeah Yashiki absolutely is a little less on edge with Mashita there. It’s...really noticeable.
We’re not whispering sweet nothings to each other about guns.
...We’re not. I’m pretty sure anyway.
THEY ARE TOTALLY HERE TO BE THE ANTI-YASHIKI OBLIVIOUS SQUAD Mashita and Hiroo are great.
...also Hiroo was absolutely bringing that up so Mashita would know. If they’re not dating, it’s cause she knows (probably despite her own wishes) that he has a crush.
MASHITA HEAD OVER TO THE US. THERE’S PLENTY OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE HERE YOU BRAT.
Okay, yashiki made me splutter. With all the other Mark-Bearers, it’s like, it’s too dangerous, please, leave for your own good. Mashita shows up and suddenly it’s ‘everyone can live’. Yashiki is head over heels for this man. He is worshiping the ground Mashita stands on. This is such an 180 and I was not prepared for the whiplash.
I had Mashita point out the whole serial killer thing in a story too, yeah.
( a shared purpose )
I wasn’t expecting the ending, but it’d threatened to get too sappy and Mashita decided to opt out at that point. (He also would rather die than ask out loud but he actually is paying attention and if Yashiki seemed uncomfortable he’d back off and let Kujou do the talking.)
I don’t think it was happening on the sites I was on, so...but I’ve put it in the calendar for next year so I don’t miss it next time. (It is kind of on-brand for me to import everything and get ready for International Fanworks Day...only to forget to look up what day it happens on. Whoops.)
( moving on )
This isn’t where I thought the chapters would be broken up but it works better this way I think.
( memory hauntings )
“I’ve dealt with three spirits so far and nothing’s happened, so why?” Yashiki rages, and Mashita’s actually struck dumb for once. He’s never known Yashiki to get angry, and is almost convinced that this is the work of some spirit. Not quite, though, and it’s almost a relief, because he’d been half convinced the man wasn’t human, with how little he’d reacted to the news of his oncoming death.
“Well, Mary mentioned something about spirits playing with their victims, didn’t she? It seems like this spirit has more control over the Mark than the others.” Mashita toys briefly with the thought of offering to come help before dismissing it. Whether it felt unnatural or not, Yashiki’s own cool head was the one thing that had kept them all alive so far. “Serial killers do that too, and given the amount of victims they’ve probably taken so far, it’s probably not too far off to describe them that way. At some point, they usually want to gloat. It’s the most dangerous situation because they’re coming after you personally, but it’s an opportunity too. You better take care of yourself. I’m not consoling the brats if there’s a funeral.”
The pause this time is longer, as Yashiki considers that, before he states warmly, with no thought as to how embarrassing his tone is, “I’d miss you too, Mashita.”
He hangs up before the ex-detective can even yell at him. Stupid sexy man.
