Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Shadowed Suspicion Chapter 318
Main Points:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure/Buffy the Vampire Slayer AU
Chapter Summary: The intruder makes his move. Jotaro makes his own.
Word Count: 1018
Rating: Teen
Note: HERE THERE PROBABLY BE BUFFY/JJBA SPOILERS
Jotaro blinks, for a moment not following along. Not the one that killed Kira—oh.
“From Mexico. Geoffrey?” He suddenly has a flashback to the man—did he introduce himself as Captain Dragon? The User of Dark Blue Moon. It’s been years, but some things he still remembers as clear as day.
Josuke continues in bursts, pausing to breathe or to concentrate, on the chase probably. “Same guy. Dressed as a maintenance worker. Kinda froze when our eyes met, and when I took a step toward him took off running. Dunno what he’s doing here, but he’s acting all shifty.”
What the hell?
“Josuke. Does he have a Stand?” The kid better be careful. Jotaro doesn’t feel like explaining to Tomoko, let alone anyone else in the family, and he doesn’t want to deal with a death in the family himself, either.
“No, I don’t think so, or he probably would have pulled it on me when I was chasing him.” Josuke sounds so casual about it that Jotaro-san has the initial desire to shake him until some sense falls out, however futile the attempt would be. He’s inherited too much from Joseph.
“Jotaro-san! I can’t use my Stand!” Koichi-kun calls, panicking, and from a quick glance the other Stand Users seem to be experiencing the same thing, though most of them aren’t quite as loud about it. Kakyoin seems to be circling around for some sort of ambush, although Jotaro has absolutely no idea what he could be armed with or what he’s planning, exactly. And people call Jotaro the scary one.
Apparently, Josuke hears, because he responds. “I can’t either, Jotaro-san. Joestar-san tells me you’d just, like, pick up stuff from the side of the road and beat up people with it. I could use your advice.”
Jotaro grunts, annoyed. There the old man goes, exaggerating things again and making it a whole hell of a lot harder, because Josuke didn’t tend to listen to corrections. Still, he might be able to think of something, if he thinks about what he’d seen on the drive here—or maybe, better yet, take off the ‘lock’ keeping them from using their Stands, because it’s a lot like that useful bastard Rohan’s abilities. There’s no use in bothering to try to pull out Star Platinum.
There’s an obvious culprit. The contract said ‘no hostilities on the grounds until sundown by either party or any agent on their behalf, paid or otherwise’. Stands probably count as agents, and it’s extremely unlikely based on Jotaro’s few less than favorable interactions with lawyers in the past that even sensible things like self-defense or even non-hostile actions would be exceptions without some kind of clause specifically mentioning that. So nullifying it is worth a try, and he’s not about to ask permission, either, because it’s highly likely it wouldn’t be given. It doesn’t seem like Garmr’s expecting him to just take it, either, because the spirit doesn’t try to stop him. Then again, he might not be able to in the first place, not with the contract in effect. Time to fix that.
“...You are related to Xander, after all.” Giles doesn’t seem like he can fully comprehend this.
“Did you just...set fire to the contract?” Santiago sounds incredulous.
He smirks and drops the curled up scroll as it burns to ash, putting his hand back in his pocket. Words aren’t needed, here, a fact that happens to be pretty satisfying.
“You are extremely lucky. That only worked because in your heart you didn’t care if your actions allowed us to use deadly force as well. Otherwise, we would have been well within our rights to file a lawsuit for breach of contract.” Garmr might be...disappointed? Grudgingly admiring? And it probably wouldn’t stop there; the firm would impose something further than the court found. Or maybe the case would be tried in Hell. Whatever. That doesn’t really matter.
The emergency sprinklers go off, and suddenly without Star Platinum’s help he probably couldn’t see much of anything through the haze. It’s a strange situation that Jotaro would think was just a side effect, maybe, of the open flame and detectors, if not for the fact that the panic is suddenly almost a physical force in the room. Between the rushing water and the blaring alarm, Jotaro almost can’t hear himself think. Some of them are doing their best not to just start screaming, though from the sounds of it, other employees outside aren’t so calm. He catches a glimpse of one of the junior lawyers just on the edge of his eyesight. The lawyer seems to be experiencing acid-like burns from the water, which suggests this is holy water. Nonna Suzi’s stories said that it was useful against unholy things like vampires. The old man’s tall tales said that wasn’t the truth. Given the evidence of what he’s seeing, it’s only useful against whatever these specific demons or vampires are, not ones created by the Stone Mask. Maybe. To be fair, Pillar Men are probably nothing like normal vampires, anyway, and by the point Joseph was even near the Vatican, he didn’t exactly have the time to go out and get a barrel of water blessed to even try and would be unlikely to mention it if the idea had occurred to him later.
The water’s oddly clean, but then, it would be. Not like they’d purposefully use holy water in their emergency systems, so the old water’s been replaced with new. This is a trap. It’s not clear whose, but Jotaro can make a guess.
“You could,” he acknowledges, even though it’s very unlikely anyone can actually hear him respond, as some of the other Wolfram & Hart attendees give up on the idea of dignity or a strong front and huddle underneath their desks and dampened briefcases, skin audibly hissing. That’s only going to work for so long; Jotaro can already feel it pooling beneath his feet and it doesn’t seem to be draining, which could quickly become more dangerous. “Think you’ve got bigger problems.”
