She might be on the police track with an emphasis on the forensics, but she’s a pretty good lab partner, and I definitely look forward to working with her more in the future. She also needs to believe in herself more, because seriously, that’s what’s preventing her from actually getting the grades she wants. It might seem like I’m harping on about her bad qualities, and that’s not—that’s not really fair. Because she shares the exact same sense of humor I have, and we’re usually on the same page about everything. And we’d be entirely lost without her, because that scientific analytical mind is ridiculously useful when we’re solving a series of murders, even if they’re kinda supernatural in nature, and she keeps us on task.
Her Major Arcana is Fortune. She’s seen what fate has to offer, and she’s not impressed. She’s willing to fight stubbornly to change that anyway, because while she might expect the worst out of any given situation, she’s also not the type to just lay down and die. She can also be a bit of a busybody at times, so while she might try to act like she doesn’t care about anything, her scientific curiosity can lead her to things like following me into an empty classroom and accidentally ending up aiding our investigation. She’s working on being more patient, but having to deal with us helps. (For me too; it’s not like I’m a flawless Greek god, either. Not, uh, that the Greek gods were flawless, except maybe physically, according to the statues.) Her secondary Arcana are Priestess (mature beyond her years, kind of stuck inside her own head, anger issues, difficulty opening up), Hierophant (following the rules, an obsession with learning and sharing that knowledge, logic, being stuck in the past, being a bit of a know-it-all), Hermit (there’s the importance of learning again, particularly about science, being too much of a loner), and Strength (being brave, obsessive, the power of brain over brawn, and dealing with problems with more self-discipline than most of us could dream).
She cried when she got her initial Persona, though I pretended not to notice for the sake of her not wasting more of her precious snackoos. Galileo is an odd choice for a mythological Persona, though not as much if you look at her secondary one (more on that later). Free fall is a pretty good description of how you feel when everything’s going wrong, and inertia can kind of describe how luck can feel, too. If you look at his personal life, too, he’d been well-respected until the Roman Inquisition got involved, which probably kind of feels like how she felt when her sister ended up in jail, even though in her sister’s case it was actually a fair ruling (and better than the murder charge she had, and further modified by the whole blackmail angle). There’s also the amount of science involved, which probably actually made her really pleased, even if it’s not exactly obvious.
Galileo has light, wind, water, and a healing spell. Chance of instakill plus several elemental spells for weaknesses plus extra healing? Not bad.
She’s also the first one of us to get a secondary Persona, also Fortune—Asura. (Since most of us have Fortune, the rest of us can use him, too, but not quite as well as Ema.) I actually asked Ms. Fey to explain that one to me because the stuff I was finding in her sister’s library was all just saying that was a class of Buddhist…gods? She explained that pop culture is modern mythology (so now Clay and I are on the lookout for The Doctor Persona) and that in several cases, Asura was depicted as a single individual aware of his doomed fate and fighting it anyway.
Anyway, Asura is…very different from Galileo in terms of use. He goes in heavy on the damage, with some pretty heavy hitting physical, Almighty, fire, and darkness skills. I usually default to having more healing, but we’ve definitely encountered situations where more damage or certain elements are better.

Ema’s the prickly sort of person and the only reason she didn’t try to pelt me with snackoos in our shared lab class was that food of any kind is not allowed and she takes science the most seriously. I didn’t figure out why she had that attitude until we both accidentally ended up inside a TV, having to fight our way out (because really, I had actually planned on a more systematic exploration of what ‘I can stick my hand inside a TV’ means than what happened) against her Shadow. Her sister was found guilty for being an accessory to murder, and her hero, my uncle (Mr. Wright) got kicked out of the whole lawyer profession, so it felt like her whole life was falling apart. More than anything, she knew how a twist of fate could ruin one’s whole life.
