jim's the type to speak all the (now) rare languages, like german and spanish & stuff.  Mostly he learned to read old
books.  He went and learned slightly fluent Russian one day because he was bored & also Chekov. (new!jim likes to use this skill to drive Uhura up the wall, because if there's one thing both versions share it's being a fink.)
