The similarities between Xander’s story in I Hope Tomorrow’s a Better Day and Ichigo’s in Bleach are entirely coincidental, and no, I’m not joking. Mostly, it was based around the antagonist and the Soul Society Kamelot Bleach AMV. Everything else just followed off that, and it somehow turned out to be a twisted reflection of Ichigo’s story, which, well, given her inner world, that’s rather appropriate.

Also I feel like Asura/Taisha is the unhinged version of Ukitake/Shunsui? Like, don’t get me wrong, Ukitake and Shunsui are both capable of being feral murder machines, but Asura and Taisha take it to the next level (and sometimes pointing it at each other). But their dynamics are very, very similar.

If City of Emptiness Shiro and Ichi got forced to go to Hogwarts there would be There May Be Collateral Damage hijinks, but also, Shiro would get sorted into Slytherin and then just stage a full rebellion. Like, deciding that putting half of his house in the hospital, while fun and probably good for taking down a few of their egos, is not a good idea, so he’d hang out in other House common rooms for a bit then decide to make his own House entirely, stealing those who also don’t feel like they fit in their House. Purple and copper, maybe, and definitely a chimera as a symbol, but he hasn’t decided on a name yet. “There are tons of empty rooms around. I bet we could just steal one.” Which he absolutely skips class to do, because he’s bored and hasn’t gotten to fight yet. Ichigo, being the slightly more logical one, points out that they could get in trouble without a Head of House teacher who knows where they are in case of something like an emergency evacuation, and Shiro narrows his eyes, thinking.
“Hmm. I’ll ask around. If all else fails I can probably bully Binns into it.”
And he absolutely would stand up against the teachers, even Dumbledore, if he has to, because screw this pitting kids against each other for no reason noise.

Shunsui and Shun Akiyama actually do have a lot in common, personality-wise. It’s kind of a cool coincidence. (He is, by the way, lying about the origin of the name, but it’s a story he came up with while he was creating the character.) Early Shunsui also has things in common with early Tony Stark—desperate and almost angry to prove himself against his father and everyone else who thinks he can’t do it, but also living down to their worst expectations.

The Use of Pride

Writing Ukitake again, and coughing again. There might be a correlation (though I didn't write this today, more last week). The good news is, the tests came back, and it's not Covid. It doesn't make me feel any less sick, but it's still a nice thing to hear.
I've been thinking about Ukitake's speech on pride since I saw that episode, and this is the explanation I came up with.

Shirokishi Chapter 2?

Fic Summary: I started writing this ages ago and do not remember what I was doing (besides the fact that it was kinda derivative). I do kinda like the concept of someone Xander's saved falling for him, because he's usually the one on civilian duty even in canon, but, uh. I don't think I carried the concept out effectively. If you look closely you might see some XDH (which was written about the same time) and prototype I Hope Tomorrow's a Better day here. I'm not sure how many chapters but it's being labeled as alternative paths because I have no intention of doing anything other than potentially copying out what's currently written. The Shinigami Xander dressed as for Halloween is not Ukitake, but there are some similarities. That being said, Nanashi, the one he dressed as, is a...complicated case, with what I'd like to call flowing weaknesses. He also has tuberculosis and has mastered a somewhat forbidden Kidou art known as blood magic, meaning that as long as he can manage to move, he can draw sigils in the air with his own blood, essentially making himself stronger spiritually the weaker he is physically. He's still weaker physically, and if he's too busy coughing to use the Kidou it doesn't help. He's at risk of getting severely hurt if the enemy gets too close, and there's also the risk that if he relies too heavily on the blood magic he could draw too heavily on his own life force and die. Fortunately, he doesn't have to muster the breath to cast the Kidou, just mouth the words. I had it not be Ukitake because I wanted to play with the blood magic concept. At the same time, I had fun playing with the idea of how the Scoobies would deal with a Xander who could both take care of himself and was really fragile. Spoiler alert: they have no idea and are really inconsistent, because they have trouble with complicated concepts, so they're kind of inconsistent. The Scoobies like to deal in absolutes: Angel is bad, magic is good, I have to handle things myself. So a complex situation baffles them a little bit. (Even Xander, though like everyone else he likes to pretend he's got it under control.)
Marcus, like most of Ichigo's friends, can see spirits. He's also rich, with a controlling family who definitely wouldn't condone his orientation or hanging out with the Scoobies.
Not sure if this is the next 'part' but it's here so I'm uploading it. I still haven't copied out the rest. I don't think. This part kind of ends on a cliffhanger, sorry about that.
