Unorthodox Procedures

I'm kind of happy with this one, but it's definitely a little odd.  This Jim has a different view of kissing and even sex than most.  For him, a kiss on the lips is kind of intimate, but not necessarily sexual.  Just like sex often means less because it's a survival necessity.
He sees Pike and Boyce as parents who are actually involved in his life, who care.  He loves them with few reservations, because once you make it past all his walls you're through.  He tries to tamp down on his usual instincts (flirting, which he barely even notices, kisses and touches) because he realizes how reputations can be ruined and because he knows that they see the world differently, even with how much effort they've put into trying to understand and accommodate him, which helps earn his loyalty.

Main Points:
Star Trek (the 2009!movie verse) Cambion AU
Summary: Pike is sure he's dying...
Word Count: 705
Rating: Teen, probably
Notes: Confused pronouns because Pike's not quite awake

Pike is aware, vaguely, that he’s dying.  He also knows that it’s definitely not Number One there, holding his hand, but it’s comforting all the same.
He had been angry at Kirk and his CMO for smuggling the crazy kid aboard without realizing that it may have sabotaged any chance the kid had to learn from his mistakes, to get the command.  And if the way he’d found Jim was any indication, the kid probably wouldn’t look for a second chance, wouldn’t try to get another future, if he got written out of Starfleet.  Now he’s grateful, because the kid’s here to comfort him as he died, and that means that, somehow, they had to have been able to get him away from Nero.  At least he can die among friends.
“Boyce was able to save your life,” the female illusion corrects quietly.  “He says it’s a miracle, which downplays the fact that he was hands-deep in your spine when we were escaping the black hole.  But if we just leave things as they are, you’ll never walk again.”  She pauses.  “I think I can fix it.  I’ve tested it out at the Academy and I can heal people, not just myself, if I’ve had sex recently.  I’ve never tried it out on anything this serious before.”
Have you had sex recently?”  Chris is still a little out of it.  If there’s the question whether he’ll walk again, it’s probably whatever painkillers he’s on.
She grins shyly.  “It’s weird answering that question from someone who’s essentially your father figure, but yes.  Gaila was supposed to be on the Farragut but they changed it last minute.  Which was good for her, at least.”  Jim’s struggling with the enormity of all their losses, and if Pike was more awake he’d probably be dealing with it, too, but right now he’s just trying to hang on to being alive.  “Boyce gave me his go-ahead, but I need yours, too.”
“Please tell me we don’t have to have sex,” he begs, and she gives him a tired grin.
“I think you just need a kiss of life.”  Her smile grows a little at the face he makes.  “Yeah, I know, sorry.  I’m nervous.”
The image of either Number One or Jim being nervous is enough to make him smile, get him over a few of the nerves.  It’s a little more intimate than a kiss on the cheek, but not by much, and the idea that the kid’s willing to do what he can, just to make sure he’s okay…
“Medbay cleared out?” he asks, before realizing it’s a dumb question since there are probably survivors from Vulcan everywhere.
“No, but we’re in the surgery room, which means nobody’s around to see me plant one on you.”  The usual ball of energy Jim Kirk can be is, in fact, slightly anxious, which is amusing.  “You’re, uh.  You’re good?  With this, I mean.”
“If it’s just a kiss, yes.  Anything else we’re going to have to talk about.”
Number One smiles shyly and stands up awkwardly before abruptly disappearing from existence.
He feels the lips on his, soft and caring, and oddly enough he’s content to just drift through existence, here and now.  Eventually, he can feel his legs, and he can feel the lips pull away.
“What d’ya know, I think it worked.”  Jim’s voice doesn’t disrupt his calm, unlike usual.  “I’ll call Boyce over.  As for your miraculous recovery, we’ll put it down to your favorite ‘clerical error’.  In the meantime, rest well.  The Earth is fine, but we’re heading back under impulse power.  Nero and his crew are gone.  You’re back on the beautiful ship, the Enterprise, and she’s gonna take care of you.”  And then he’s gone, but Pike can go back to floating somewhere between consciousness and unconsciousness happily.
He wakes up later long enough to note that Kirk’s curled up in one of those uncomfortable waiting chairs and someone’s slipped a pillow underneath him and a blanket over him.  It should be uncomfortable but he looks completely contented, which is out of the norm.  Pike manages to dangle one arm off to rest on one of the kid’s bony shoulders and drifts off again.
