Trigger warning: talking about sexual violence in Buffy under the cut
Shoot, I'm not used to working with post-series Buffy at all. I knew something was up and realized it's because usually I work with either a) much earlier Buffy timeline or b) Spander or c) a combination of the two, so all the stuff that happened at the end of Season 6/in Season 7 with the Spike/Buffy relationship and how that affected Xander's attitude and dealings with Spike just is kind of missing.
This when I was planning on dealing with the Faith & Xander thing, because for whatever reason that sticks in my mind a lot more. Personally, I found both scenes traumatizing, but the former one more (maybe because it seemed more realistic & was based off a real-life writer experience, or something)? A lot of people seem to make Faith and Xander work together, or even ship them, which...you know, it's your point of view, your opinion, go ahead and do what you want, I just find it vaguely disquieting. Especially when Xander just doesn't talk about it, doesn't interact, kind of just shuts down whenever it's brought up, which, for the guy who's pretty voluble about everything, is kind of a thing. And it's not going to be a huge part, but it's going to come up at least slightly.
I kind of like the idea of Spike and Xander as friends, which is the main reason I'm not probably going to change it. Maybe, grudgingly, because Buffy asked a lot of times, he agreed to not blame Spike. Or whatever. (EDIT: Actually, thinking about this, that doesn't work. We're talking about the same Xander who was like 'all vampires are evil because the thing with Jesse was really traumatizing'. He projects. A lot. Maybe too much. Still, given that some parts of this are turning out more AU than others, I'm going to guess that the relationship between Spike and Buffy didn't make it to quite the same point in this 'verse? IDK. For whatever reason, the whole last season of AtS didn't end quite the same as canon, so Spike's character story is going off track at that point. It's not that much of a stretch to say it went off the rails earlier.) Also this isn't meant to be extremely angsty, despite the fact that as a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure there are probably going to be some main character deaths, even if that includes the entire cast, new and old. The thing with Faith and Xander, as in the show, is going to be pretty understated, but it'll be there, because I kind of doubt Xander ever got over it. He got stronger, yes, but will he ever be okay living with her in the same house? He'll work with her, if need be, but be really uncomfortable about it the whole time, because even as much as he logically understands Faith's a different person now, every time he looks at her he'll see that night.
So, yeah, thinking about this took up a large part of my weekend.
